Recently I got into a debate about who had the best state championship team in the state. I would say the 1999 Houn Dawgs should be considered among the top. Wonder who else you guys would say?

The 1999 Aurora Houn Dawgs...oh my they were pretty good and I know something about good football.
This topic has been brought up before, I find it more applicable when you put it as best teams based on their class over the years.
What position did you play on the 99 Aurora Team?
You almost have to give it to one of the Webb City teams that have put up 13 state titles.
I agree. Its hard to just say one team was better than another because of the class system.
Hard to argue that one. If only Cal-Preps would go back further we could see what they had to say.
Has anyone ever thought about a playoff between all of the state champs to see who is the overall champ?
I would say that this years Odessa team would give anyone a run for their money.

I just think that it would finally get people to understand that class doesn't mean great. There is some small schools with great programs that would be able to at least compete.
I realize that... But any given Friday right? Just cause you have a big school doesn't mean you have great talent.
We are always talking on here about the fact that class doesn't mean good. Just cause you are class 6 has nothing to do with being the best. Just that you have more kids in your school. Unless you have been moved up class for being to good lol
The real question is ... would Odessa be in the Top 10 in any of the classes above them? Maybe yes in Class 4 and 5. Definitely no in Class 6.
Hence why it would be cool to have a playoff of all the classes to actually answer that question. I can't say that I know either way weather they could compete but I know that program wouldn't back down.

1980 Parkwood Bears were pretty dang good. 14-0. Only allowed 1 TD through 10 regular season games. That TD was a 96 yard run with 6 seconds left on the clock with their backups in. Finished the season outscoring their opponents 653-33.

Class 5 and 6 football a different animal then class 2 and 3. With line play being the biggest difference.

There are several class 2 and 3 schools that have more players than Carthage...which makes Carthage's relative success over the last 15 years all the more impressive.
