Rocco Marriot throws for 500 yards and sets a state record?
Lutheran North rolls to a state title and spends the entire press conference talking about how they should also be the MIAA champions after beating a D2 team?
Adrian and Penney combine for 100 rushes and the game is over in an hour and 25 minutes?
Dippin Dots make a comeback?
The forecasters are right and its actually good weather?

Witness MO legislators reading MSHSAA board members the riot act for charging for streaming.
Every other state does it for free. It's supposed to be about the kids and not lining your pockets.

I'd rather see the legislators take this up vs. post some thoughts and prayers for the local team claim a state title.

My dream scenario plays out a lot differently for me ...

1, Win some insanely high lottery (which will never happen).

2, Build an indoor stadium capable of hosting state football championships centrally located in the state (but not in the city where it is currently being held, I have a bias against that city). I'm not sure exactly where I would build it but it has to be a location with ample hotels, restaurants and some other "attractions and distractions" to allow the non-football family members entertainment options while the football fans can attend as many games as they want. (Likewise, this won't happen either.)

3, Sign an exclusive contract with MSHSAA to host the state football championships. My initial thought would be similar agreement that Omaha has with the NCAA and the College World Series, 50 years. In the agreement I would allow MSHSAA to use the venue rent free for the two days of the state football championships and then I'm sure the agreement would have a percentage split on the gate and concessions, or perhaps they keep 100 percent of the gate and host venue gets 75 percent of the concessions and MSHSAA gets 25 percent. Doesn't matter to me, I won't allow it to be a deal-breaker, I'm confident that whatever is best for the membership, its football programs and fans we can find common ground. (Still, a pipedream).

4, I would also need to decide on a seating capacity ... it doesn't need to be Dome at Amerca's Center big with 60,000+ seats, I'm thinking closer to under 30,000, probably closer to 25,000 or 20,000. It's been a while since I looked at state football championship attendance figures but assume for a minute that every person who attended all six games is at ONE game, what would be the ideal seat capacity? Sure would look a like better on TV with a venue with 25,000 seats 7/8ths full vs. a venue that is 3/4 empty.

Sounds like Osage Beach could have a project with this idea.

Great minds think alike… as a former sports commission director, I have had success bidding upon, securing and hosting a wide variety of events. I’m confident if I had the venues, I could keep them busy and generate significant economic impact. The challenge is having the budget to get the venues built and I never had a budget to build venues, just to bring the events in and execute the event.

I would think such a venue in Osage would draw conventions, concerts, athletic events galore. Of course, let’s make sure the Show-Me Bowl is booked for years to come.

Or do like they do in Iowa and the previous week use that same location for the semifinals.

So far I agree with most every idea being tossed around thus far and in order for a venue of this magnitude to be successful it would need a programming plan to make sure it is busy, but well maintained in order for it to not be run into the ground.

The one event I would like to try host in Missouri would be similar to something done in Texas at The Star in Frisco … a multi-day high school football event on opening weekend of the season.

For example… Thursday evening of opening weekend I’d like to host a doubleheader with two teams playing at 3:30 pm followed by a 7 pm kickoff.

Turn around on Friday and do the same thing again … doubleheader at 3:30 and 7.

Then on Saturday a quadruple header with four games starting at 9 am, 12:30 pm, 4 pm and 7:30 pm.

These games would (hopefully) be showcase games featuring state ranked teams or teams with notable players or even a top-ranked Missouri team playing a top-ranked team from out of state.

The hard part would be for a school to be willing to give up a home date when — depending on the year, with a nine game schedule schools only get four or five home games — in order to participate in an opening weekend kickoff classic.

Not sure how well it would draw over three days with seven games but I would like to try and have all six classes represented during the kickoff classic.

Add in Mizzou beating Kansas in some college hoops on Sunday!

Hard to say though... A lot of good programs know they are getting a few dates for districts so they are willing to forego one home date.

I said this a few years ago when JCPS dumped probably 40-50+ million on the stadium at Cap City, new soccer stadium and baseball at JC. Could’ve built an indoor stadium similar to the Kibbie Dome in Idaho. Both JC and CC could’ve played there, could’ve moved soccer to Adkins and Vivian was a perfectly fine baseball field that I would guess they rented for little to nothing from the city.
