Football has been at least respectable for several years now, and very good for the last 2. Probably will be very good this upcoming season as well. Basketball was district champ in a tough district last year. Baseball was district runner up last year beating Webb City (also tough district) and I think was 3rd this year, still a very respectable team. Girls tennis won district and well into post season. Boys Tennis was 4th in state losing to Rockhurst. I believe one player set some kind of state record. Boys soccer won district as well.

There might me more I'm leaving out but it seems like I've read more positive headlines about Joplin athletics in the last year or two than in the previous 20. Curious to know from any Joplin people what's going on!?

just in regards to fb I think they take a step back. they lost almost the entire ol and some defensive talent. skill positions will be fine. they will lose to Carthage and Webb and prolly drop another in conference.

They also won track conference, district and sectional I believe.

Yes the football team has alot of skill coming back but lost a good group of kids at O line. Hopefully they get some kids to step up and fill their shoes. I see them having a good year but we will see. Should be a lot of fun.

Basketball may be a better this year with most everybody back.

I think the schools culture is better right now.

I don't think Joplin takes much of a step back in 2019. They do lose a fair amount of guys up front but the class of 2019 has looked very good going all the way back into youth. Now in 2020 I definitely see a step back and probably will more likely be in the middle of the pack in th COC. Coach at Joplin is doing a good job though so I think the program is on pretty solid ground.

hope your right, would rather reload than rebuild every year like wc basically does. no excuse for a population this size with football being rather popular in this area.
