What was wrong with 4 team districts and 2 advance?

Didn't say anything was wrong with it. Asked why it was changed in first place. The question in other threads has been about possible change to the playoffs. Apparently the current system doesn't allow for the season to end on Thanksgiving weekend. So it sounds like MSHSAA has a problem and is looking at alternatives.

My bad...I wasn't aware MSHSAA thought that way. I feel the current system is the best iteration they've ever had. It mirrors all the other team sports, so it makes sense in my mind...Keep it the way it is and back the hoops/winter calendar up a month. I'm good.

Its a good setup. Only tweak is to go 16 districts instead of 8. Cuts down on some bus time and brings back sectionals - which was a really big deal.

From their area meetings and the fact they think 15 games is too much.

why do we need conferences again? They have no bearing on the playoffs. If they goal is to win a state championship...the season should reflect that and the games should matter. Play to get in. 8 team districts with the top 4 getting in is too perfect. Play those teams week 4-10. Play whoever weeks 1-3

Because playoffs is not the only reason you play sports.

Bingo. Too much emphasis here on postseason. Regular season is important. History of conferences is also important. Schools don’t want to give up conference rivalries.

Only need to move hoops a couple of weeks. Start it the week after state football.

Eliminate all conferences. Play anyone you want weeks 1,2,3 except teams in your district. Play all the teams in your district weeks 4-10. Only those 7 games count on your point tabulation. This eliminates all the whining from lazy ADs about scheduling difficulties. This is the best way to find the best team in your district. District champions play week 11. The season is over by Thanksgiving. Simple.

It also eliminates playing a district team twice in one season which is unhealthy and stupid.

THey would need to figure out districts earlier in the year then. Schools dont know who is in their district until after practice has started

Yes Meesha would have to work to get it out early. Iowa does something like this. They got rid of conferences. Eventually it's going to have to happen, or make conferences all the same classification.

Hoops starts Oct 31 this year. Backing it up a couple of weeks doesn't accomplish what I think you want accomplished.

Just back to the argument of Who's #2. They already lost- they're not the best team in the state. The goal is to determine who the best team is.

the point here is we know the 5-1 team isn't the best.

Why does everyone just want to play district games only? Most districts are spread out geographically crazy. Which is fine for postseason play but regular season makes no sense. In my area of the state - Osage playing Reeds Spring, Cassville in the regular season doesn't make sense. Neither does Versailles playing Lamar, Stockton, East Newton. Or Doniphan playing Ava, Mountain Grove etc. I just don't get the obsession with playing just your class.

can still play whomever you want weeks 1-3. Also people that say it would be harder to schedule i would argue the opposite. If everyone has to find games for weeks 1-3 seems pretty easy.
