Macon was in the same boat Eldon was back then. Played in a conference that was primarily Class 2A, you had to schedule up just to have a chance. Eldon had to keep Camdenton and Marshfield on the schedule because they were Class 4A just to have a chance.

My dad was telling me his team went undefeated in like 78 or 77. Didn’t make the playoffs because the point system was also based on how the team did the previous year as well.

Teams routinely went 8-2 or 9-1 and missed.

I don't think prior years were ever a part of MO high school playoff consideration. I could be wrong but I've been around long enough to have lived through all of the different iterations that MO has used. I know they tweaked the points system over the years, but again, I don't think prior years were ever a consideration.
 
I cannot be convinced that the one where the results are exclusively determined with a game of football between two teams and then one that scores more points at the end of the game gets to keep playing is not the best system.
