What a Turnaround

Spokane won just 3 games during the 2016-17 season.

Last night they beat Skyline 86-81 in overtime to win the Class 2 District 10 championship and push their record to 17-10. It was one of the best high school basketball games I've ever seen in person.

How many other programs have had such drastic turnarounds from a very poor season to a successful one?

Not to burst you're bubble, but it happens somewhere every year. Still doesn't take away from their accomplishment especially if it was mostly the same guys. In HS basketball it only takes a couple of good players for a complete turnaround, especially in the lower tiered classes.

My bubble is definitely still intact. I've been around my share of basketball, but not as much as some other posters... so my question was genuine, not rhetorical. I'd like to know of other programs that have won 10-15 more games than they did the previous season.

Here's a little extra information about the Spokane boys team. It's largely the same roster as last year. The team lost two starters and first man off the bench to graduation and added two freshmen who start this year. Head coach Kyle Johnson is in his second year running the program.

Spokane will play Crocker in sectionals at Lebanon high school Wednesday night.

How do you think Spokane and Crocker match up?

If I remember right, a long time ago, the boys or girls coach from Crocker use to act like he was having a heart attack through out the game. It would have been at Plato tournament in 97.

Were you at the game? If so, what was your opinion of the game? I wasn't able to make it to Lebanon so I am curious.

Crocker won because they set the tempo faster than Spokane wanted to play and they dominated the boards.

I think if Spokane makes it a half court game and rebounds better they get the win. But Crocker does a really good job of forcing their style of play and those boys rebound hard.

And the coach got fired away????? How does this happen??
What "big time" coach wants that job so they fired the guy to bring him in? I hear about this happening more and more when a team looks like they have promise and an experienced coach isn't at the helm. Schools seem like they don't want to keep continuity with coaches if they might have a good team.
