Wentzville Holt season over due to COVID

23 forfeits in round 1 now the count starts for round 2. With such a huge spike in cases and the st. Louis hospitals being at 90% capacity this could be the start. Things up here are taken much more seriously than in southwest Missouri where there were no forfeits. I have a very good friend in the southwest part of the state and he told me people are shoulder to shoulder at games. Very little is done to check the players for covid. Where I keep the 40-second clock no students allowed in only 4 family members per player and everyone is masked up. And this is policy most everywhere you go. It is for the kids to play not the fans to watch. They can watch online.

I feel like Holt played knowing that kid was positive, that announcement came quick yesterday. They played Friday night

I hope not but it could be like I said I have a very good friend who knows what is going on in southwest Missouri and some schools just say kids have a cold and are never checked. Football games are more important than health down there. Up here in the Metropolitan area, the health of student-athletes is all that matters.

Smithville did that earlier this year. Played knowing the guy was sick. Had a COVID test the next day. Then they screw the team they played. Really low class.

lots of good games this week.
loved seeing all the kids out last night getting candy.

Ft. Zumwalt West should be allowed to play this week. MSHSAA should step in. Sure they lost the game, but to lose to a top seed who forfeits less than 24 hours later is ridiculous. West could potentially be playing for a few more weeks. Those kids were robbed.

Yes...they should be allowed to play next week. They need to make an immediate rule that if the winner is unable to move forward, then the team that lost the previous week be allowed to move forward.

In theory wouldn’t the losing team be quarantined as well since they may have had contact with positive player. It gets real weird real quick

Could be. But there is also a chance that Holt's player was quarantined, but didn't get the results until Saturday morning.

Mshsaa won't let West play you lost on the field season over. What are you going to tell your players you lost but you know the rules changed that you can lose and still move on what kind of tourney is that. If a team forfeits that is one thing or plays an illegal player but not this scenario.

If the health of student athletes was all
that mattered (your words), then why does STL have any sports going on? Why wouldn’t you be totally isolating rather than putting these kids out there in practice with one another and on the field/in the gym with kids from other schools? Seems risky if their health was all that matters, right?

As for STL being critical of how we are doing things in SWMO, you do what you want and we will do what we want. If we thought your way was better, we’d be living there. But don’t tell us we need to change our ways to be more like STL.

Here in SW Mo, there are a lot of different attitudes on lots of issues from St Louis. People down here figure life not lived is no life at all. You can pretend breathing is living if you want but don't expect us to live the way you are.
Yesterday there were gyms packed with fans watching their girls play volleyball. Covid is EVERYWHERE. No one has to participate but life must return to normal. Lots of people are sick and some are dying (very few) but that in itself is pretty normal.
I am personally ok with that, if a team has to stop because of a packed gym created an event where someone from the football team is positive and the team is done in playoffs, then so be it this year, no complaining.

Glad I’m in SWMO, and not where you’re at. 5-6% positive test rate for almost two months. 2% death rate. 70% of that 2% of that 5-6% are at least 70 yrs old and have AT LEAST two major underlying conditions. But yes, shut er down. Seems logical.

By Friday all these kids will be perfectly healthy physically but emotionally ****ed up for many years to come. By the way the clay county health adiministrator's regular job is miniature golf course owner. probably still "working" from home waiting for a vaccine.
