"All the talent graduated" - I'm sure Vanlue, Musselman, Channing, Goddard, Gossage, Sweet, Bebee, Gibson, Deadman, and Rogers will be glad to hear that they have no talent. Along with Baker, Ensminger, Larson, Peterson, Fowler and host of other young men! From the way they were team tackling and hitting holes last Friday night - they are willing to put in the work.
Just from what I saw Friday, the D looks to be pretty good. All 3 strings that were out there looked impressive.
CJ Dad is from Webb, just trying to "fire up" the boys...as if they need it.
Sorry top but I will be at the C5 Liberty North C4 Kearney game on that date.
Want to see if last years only loss has been forgiven ....

I agree. Does give me a little hope if Webb fans believe they need to get their team fired up to beat the KSN TV #5 rated team in Joplin and Pittsburg viewing areas. That #5 ranking should get the CJ boys fired up, since it appears the local media doesn't think much of them.
A few years ago, no not a bad thing. Our expectations are now higher at CJ. Not a good thing when we play 3 of the teams above us. Tells me, they think CJ will lose a minimum of 3 games. But I say thank you KSN. You provided some real bulletin board material for CJ. We are now the underdogs!
I wouldn't worry much about how some sportscasters ranks the local teams. Might as well post your own ranking on here it would mean about as much
Carl has strung together some pretty successful seasons, why cant they get more than 45 kids out for varsity football??

Maybe I’m not be giving CJ enough credit but I think the best thing they have going for them in their hopes to beat WC is that it’s week 1. Last year I felt like Webb City looked pretty bad in week 1 (yes, in spite of winning a shutout). Had Carthage not come to town looking oddly nervous yet overconfident and with such high expectations, I actually believe they could have taken that game.
If WC is indeed “rebuilding” (which I still think is wishful thinking by many) and CJ is just filling the gaps then they might be poised to capitalize on a team still trying to find and arrange all the pieces. But the cardinals will without a doubt prepare as best they can. I don’t think there will be any catching WC asleep at the wheel like what may have happened last year.
Friday should be a really fun game regardless!

I agree. Week 1 is the best time to catch Webb this year. They will only get better as the year progresses. The CJ defense is only filling gaps, but there are a lot of new starters on offense, who will get better too. It should be a fun game and anot awesome atmosphere.
Do you actually believe that JRod and Smitty would allow a WC team to not work hard. They have had teams in the past that were inexperienced as far as Friday night starts. They just plug in another player that no one but Webb fans have heard of, and keep on winning. The only thing CJ has going for them is that they get to play WC the first week of the season.

I agree with CJ dad here! Many moons I have watched what I thought was the team to beat with my Tigers, we have been down so I apply my faith to the Bulldogs of CJ! To fast, to strong, the Wall kid is a beast and if you watch him play he is better than any lineman WC will put on the field! He will abuse the Goddard kid and force WC to go left all night like he did in the district game! WC has no QB that can lead them, not one! CJ by 14!

I'll be glad when the game is here Friday night. While it's fun to debate, it will be a whole lot more fun to watch 2 quality teams (#1 & #3 in the preseason polls) settle it on the field. Come on Friday night! Go Bulldogs!!!

Lamar beat up on cj; no doubt about it. BUT Zeke wall is crazy good. He is a 3rd year starting junior and what I would describe as the best player cj has

Webb ran for over 320 yards against Carl in that monsoon last year. They will rush for over 400 tomorrow night and probably never see a third down until the third string is in and CJ has a running clock on them like normal
Agree. Zeke is very impressive. I think some Big 12/SEC schools should be giving him a look.
As far as the game. It is week 1 so I doubt either team is going to be top form but I think it is very likely that the 2 best teams in the COC are hooking up in week 1. Interesting in that if CJ wins they would replace WC as the undefeated team in the COC, albeit it just 1-0. I'm not saying Carthage, Willard or Republic might not turn out to be a spoiler but for the first time in a while WC goes into a game vs a fellow SWMO team not as a prohibitive favorite. That makes things exciting.
They only thing though is if CJ doesn't knock off WC this year, when will they?
Webb has more than 2 options for QB. They practiced another kid at QB during the summer. I don't think he will be needed. CJDAD should know him because I believe he lived in CJ for quite a while. Anyways.....defense wins games. Good luck.
Just saw Zeke Wall with no pads tonight at the CJ pep rally. He looks bigger and stronger than last year and does look like an absolute beast. His arms are huge and he will be a load for anyone to try to handle.
Zeke is great but it will take 10 others on defense, 11 on offense, and special teams.
