Webb City 37 Neosho 18 F

Boys…been saying it for a few weeks now. Slow down and let it sink in. Webb. Isn’t. Very. Good. They’re just an okay football team.

They still beat Joplin and Republic. Weird team. Maybe they just play to the level of their competition.

Maybe give the other team some credit , Neosho isn’t very good but they will compete

They already lost to CJ and Branson. They would beat Marshfield. Undecided on WP and Bolivar. They would beat Rogersville.
Cj win on a blocked punt and score , Branson won in overtime , zNeosho starts 17 underclassmen , they’ll be fine

Maybe give the other team some credit , Neosho isn’t very good but they will compete
I don't think the other team has anything to do with taking delay of game penalties after time outs and change of possessions all night long

I have never seen 60 % of the plays they ran tonight. Just trying to add an entire new playbook and its taking a toll.

I will say that everyone at Seneca I have talked to was happy when the current Webb coach left. They like their current coach a lot better.

Discombobulated!

They say a team will take on a coaches personality. Rod was tuff. They lined up with double tight, split backs and QB under center and ran the ball 3 and 5 yards a whack. 99.9 % of the time, the most physical team on the field. Now all this cute multi-motion nonsense into various formations leading to delay of game and false starts. Kids look slow and hesitant at best and completely lost at worst. Neosho likely not one of top defensive units in the COC but missed blocks made it look they had the second coming of Reggie White in a Wildcat uniform.
Defensively I think 3 or 4 key neutral zone infractions tonight?

I split this game online with the Republic/Nixa game. I think someone hit it on the head - Webb City plays down to their competition (they played "typical" Webb football against Republic and Joplin and gave Nixa everything they could handle in week 1) but look like a sub-.500 team against Willard and Neosho.

First, Neosho is probably one of the best 1-win teams in Missouri - and could easily have 3 to 4 wins. They have a lights-out receiver, a good running back, and very good O- and D-lines.

Webb seems to be still experimenting with what appears to be a 3-QB system, with #8 and #3 and now #2 receiving QB snaps, sometimes during the same drive, with #2 and #3 also serving as WR. They are also doing a TON of motion prior to the snap between the tight-ends and running backs - it is certainly a different look than J-Rod's 2-tight end/run from past years.

What I found amusing is when Webb City went back to their "bread and butter" of power running, they drove down the field and scored.

Wow, some of you guys have forgotten the past for WC. Don’t forget ’21, they looked great on paper and warming, up before a game, but they then forgot how to play football. Until, they got beat mid-season by Nixa and the next Monday woke up and ran the table for another state championship. You had given up on them too, but then you weren’t about to blame the Legend. If you were to take an even small glimpse into the COC this year and compare the scoring and points scored against the top three teams, here’s what you would find: Nixa – PS: 295, PA: 124, WC – PS: 265, PA: 137, Republic – PS: 260, PA – 182. That’s your top three. I think if you look at the games that the teams have played against, let’s say: Carthage: Nixa had to hold them off on the 2-yard line with seconds left to win it – why don’t you tell the Nixa faithful that their coach needs to head back to MS where he came from. Republic allowed WC 42 points, the most this season to WC, wow, what a failure as a coaching staff. If you paid real attention to the game film last night: WC vs. Neosho, you would see WC run the veer, more times than not – yes, they are disguising it, but most of their big plays came out of the split back veer, with a touchdown or a pass for a long gain or a touchdown. McFarlin may not be the Legend right now, but he’s doing a great job with his top two running backs out, one defensive starter out for the last two games and his back up out for the same two games. If they are hitting on all cylinders as of yet, that’s fine, let it start this week against Branson or better yet, the week after they got the bye and start district play and then into the final 16 teams of the state. I think they’ll be there for the semi’s just as they have been year after year.

Last year WC beat Neosho by 21 , this year with a new coach by 19 , not much difference

So you can't criticize Webb City? Good lord... I'm a CJ fan first but I support COC all the way and against Willard and now Neosho (and let's be honest, Carthage) I saw a lot of mental mistakes by Webb that you don't typically see - jumping offsides on hard counts, calling timeouts or taking flags for play clock violations, QB handing off to wrong side of running back, fumbles on center or running back exchanges, etc.

I also think you aren't giving Webb's opponents enough credit. Carthage gave you a bloody nose - simple as that. And Neosho and Willard both played you hard for 3 quarters until the 4th. How many times was Neosho's D-line through your O-line and dropping your running backs for a loss or a minimal gain last night?

I understand it takes 4 quarters to win a football game and to WC's credit they take advantage of that, like they almost always do, but Webb City certainly had shown enough this year to be open to criticism, even if you won't admit it.

Sloppy wins are sloppy wins but in the playoffs against teams like Grain Valley or Cardinal Ritter or even a rematch against Republic Webb City better clean up it's act.

Don't count Fort Osage out.

I don't have the calculations, but I do believe FO loses to OP this week and PC beats WC, if PC jumps FO and the game is played in PC, I think that is where FO's season ends. Furthermore, even if FO gets past PC, they have to go back to GV and they are facing a defense that is 2.5 to 3x better than week 1 and an offense that is 2x as good. the way to beat GV is in a shootout and having the ball last. unfortunately, I don't think FO can put up points against the improved GV defense the way GV offense will against the FO defense. I could be completely wrong, but I don't think I am and there is a lot of games to avoid the injury bug for all teams mentioned that can affect everything we are saying.
