Pump the brakes on as good as Lynn, but he's certainly a quality pitcher. People tend to forget just how good Lynn has been the past four years because of his postseason disappearing acts. Leake is a more pitch to contact type guy, and probably won't win as many games, but he's definitely a quality 4/5 for this rotation. Would also imagine this signing might free up a young arm to be packaged for that bat everyone wants. Just a thought.Good signing!! Wainwright replaces Lackey as our #1 and Leake is as good as Lynn. Who is going to bat 4th has been and is their biggest need.
No it's a very silly stat. Who in the heck knows who that replacement might be and how they would pitch in a different park? there is no way to know that answer.Probably right is +1 war really that big of difference?
In a word...yes.Probably right is +1 war really that big of difference?
But BA is still the most telling stat for a hitter...right???Please tell me you still think a pitchers W/L record for a season is a good stat
RBI's tell you everything you need to know. If they don't have more than 100, they suckBut BA is still the most telling stat for a hitter...right???
RBI total is pretty dependent on other guys being on base. Maybe one of you can tell me how in the hell you can possibly figure out how much better a guy is than is imaginary replacement.RBI's tell you everything you need to know. If they don't have more than 100, they suck
No, you stat guys can educate me on how you know an imaginary player MIGHT be better than any other real player. You can't because YOU don't know yourself! You're a grown man. You can educate yourself.
I think I am a +11 WAR poster because nobody can replace me.No, you stat guys can educate me on how you know an imaginary player MIGHT be better than any other real player. You can't because YOU don't know yourself!
About 7.5-8 M a year in the FA market.Probably right is +1 war really that big of difference?
Actually...it's not that hard.No it's a very silly stat. Who in the heck knows who that replacement might be and how they would pitch in a different park? there is no way to know that answer.
He's also been very healthy which is a plus in a rotation with guys like Jaime.Pump the brakes on as good as Lynn, but he's certainly a quality pitcher. Your problem is, you try to deal in exactness with this. There's obviously no way to do that, conventional stats or sabe stats. Sabes just tend to tell a bit deeper story than conventional stats. Which, in turn, make the predictions a little less murky. And they do allow for outliers, like park adjusted numbers and such. WAR is probably better used to try to differentiate between groups of players (subs, starters, all-stars), rather than two players as close as Leake and Lynn (the two compared here). But keep in mind, WAR is a combination of a number of statistics. So no, it's obviously not exact. But to just dismiss it is silly. It's a far better predictor and comparison tool than simply looking at W-L record or ERA.No it's a very silly stat. I think that's a huge part of this deal. He's an innings eater so far in his career. And given the amount of question marks with health coming off last season, that's not to be undersold. He's also been very healthy which is a plus in a rotation with guys like Jaime.
