Can some of you familiar with the Ozark conference tell me what has happened to the Waynesville program that used to be fairly competitive year in and year out? Do they miss coach Vernon that much?

Brad Drehle went 97-22 in the 10 years prior to coming to Waynesville, so I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say it's probably not coaching.its hard to say, I mean you have to look at coaching but its hard to say really. They still have good athletes but have lost the edge we used to see from them.
This was at Blair Oaks against zero competition.Brad Drehle went 97-22 in the 10 years prior to coming to Waynesville, so I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say it's probably not coaching.
Coaching at BO and coaching at Waynesville is a bit of a different game. Not the same type of kid or athlete, or parent for that matter. But to say their athletes are just as good as they were 10 (or even five) years ago wouldn't be accurate either. There's not just one singular reason a program like this takes a nose dive like they have.Brad Drehle went 97-22 in the 10 years prior to coming to Waynesville, so I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say it's probably not coaching.
Can't speak of the reasons because I have no idea. But their upperclassmen numbers have been down for a couple years. When Joplin played at Waynesville last year I asked that question of some of the press box guys and they said that when Drehle came in he was a lot tougher and demanding than the previous coach. Had hard practices....evidently something they were not used to. Practically the entire senior class quit. Not sure if this is what happened but that is what I was told.
A lot of truth to that I suppose. Sometimes there's more that goes into it than record though. But I think they won four games his first year, and none the last two. That's tough, no matter how you look at it. Especially at a place that's accustomed to winning quite a bit more than that. The results speak for themselves.
I think that's a big problem there. Kids move in & out every year or two when their parents get transferred. If you have a stud player who's a sophomore, he probably won't be there as a senior. Makes it hard to build a program from grade school up.How much does the roster change with changes in personel at the base?
Have heard other coaches say you'd have to keep schemes pretty simple there because of this. No clue if true, because I just don't know football that well. But it sounds reasonable. FWIW, I have no clue how simple or complicated their scheme is now.I think that's a big problem there. Kids move in & out every year or two when their parents get transferred. The Janitorial Staff could have gone 97 and 22.Hey look boozo the clown checked in again

That's all you got - I take this as an affirmation of my post. The person above has spent too much time watching the helias wrestling program wither away
