Though I would look at some numbers from the COC and see if anything interesting stuck out. Nixa on paper is considerably better than anyone else. They are solid on both offense AND defense. Joplin in spite of being only 2pts behind Nixa on offense, has a defense that is essentially a tie for second worst. Carthage has not averaged as much offense as Webb City but has won their games by a slightly wider margin. Neosho...man those kids are having a hard time in wildcat country.

Of course this is only based on a partial season (and a weird one) so not everyone has played the same teams or strength of schedule.

Keep in mind when considering Webb’s numbers, they could have easily put 50-60 on Kickapoo but called the dogs off and kept it at 38

Yeah, Webb's scores a lot of time are a little deceptive. Coach Roderique (probably spelled that wrong) is about as classy as they come. I have noticed that their margin of victory could be off the charts in most of their games, and they hardly ever are. And I am not from Webb, just an observation over many years, about 5 years coaching against them.

Very true. Webb is not the only team that 'could' have better stats though. I remember one of the games, I think vs Neosho where Carthage gave up a TD and failed to score on a couple possessions because they more or less had the freshman team on the field for much of the second half. I would guess Nixa has been able to do the same in it's games as well.

Nixa is probably better up front, on both sides of the ball, than any other team in the COC. Pretty good recipe for success. I don’t think they’re good enough to hang with the LSWs or Ray-Pecs in C6, but dang they’re salty. They’d be a C5 favorite I’d think.

Webb tends to start subbing early once up big. Getting younger kids a lot of playing experience. But don’t get me wrong if an opponent starts getting cocky trying to show up Webb after they called off the dogs Coach Rod has been known to throw the Varsity back on the field for a series and that typically goes badly for the opponent.

Seems like Willard has been the victim of that a time or two.

Favorite example of this is about 06 or 07? at CJ when their starters scored once or twice on the sophomores and the smack talk ensued. Next play after kickoff, Howard to Zerkel for a long TD bomb.

Went ahead and updated this after the games Friday which shuffled it up a bit. The top 3 are basically identical. Carthage is now on top but remember they have not played Nixa OR Webb City. Joplin is now officially in the bottom half of the pack in spite of having nearly the best offense in the conference. They have played Carthage, Webb, AND Nixa.

Went ahead and updated this. Nixa is still clinging to the top spot in spite of their offense being shutout by Webb City thanks to their defense. Webb City jumped Carthage mainly due to Carthage's defensive rating falling after giving up 28pts to Republic.

Nixa could stay atop this ranking and maybe(??) claim the COC if they are able to beat Carthage on Friday.

Joplin is still an oddball with very good offense and very poor defense.
