Explain Democratic Socialism to me. This isn't "gotcha" stuff, I just want to know the difference from regular old socialism and why Democratic Socialism is something more than just revamping a failed ideological and economic system?
Social security, Medicare, Medicaid, K-12 public schools = Democratic Socialism. FDRs new deal. College grants for the poor. Regulating industries. Price controls. MLK = Democratic socialist.
Socialism is the government owning the means of production—-steel mills, factories, whole industries. If a healthcare plan involves the gov taking over every hospital in the country—that would be socialism. Hint- no one is proposing that.
Yet, when Medicare was proposed in the 60s the conservatives ran around like chickens with no heads screaming socialized medicines would destroy the country. It didn’t happen. But it has extended millions of lives. As has SS.

He was raised and educated in the USA, not in a Socialist country. If he had, he'd realize why people flee those countries and come to the USA, or go to Nordic countries that utilize capitalism.
