Back to the topic, unions are not as powerful as they were in the mid 20th century, not since Reagan busted up the air traffic controllers union. The days of long strikes and violence are pretty much long gone. Though I still believe organized crime runs most of the big unions. Most unions today only purpose is to negotiate contracts, and that is just a matter of give and take until the rank and file agree to terms. The days of picket lines cracking heads of scabs are long gone.
