A man that fought for his country during an era prior to civil rights and a spoiled brat football player who won't stand for the flag or National Anthem. A man that shot Nazis in 1943 and came back to a country where he was shoveled into discrimination. Please compare.

Even though he was fighting for a country that was actively discriminating against him, he surely believed the promises of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights would eventually be upheld. And that America was and is a great force for good in the world.

To me, this is a repudiation of the race-based politics happening right now.

I have on occasion listened to Rush on AM radio when nothing else is on before he fell from grace. He's famous but yet obscure unless you seek his show. Of course, every non-Rep hates him since the time of George Brett's heyday. That's part of it too.
IDK but I guess it's personal for him. Rush is a supportive conservative talk show pioneer, influenced in part by William F Buckley who influenced Rush. Rush influenced many others with the conservative movement. Rush has often been demonized, still is, some deserving, like Trump. He's dying. He's the President, he can give the honor to a civilian of his choosing. The list of past recipients can help you get a sense of what it's about. Who knows.

I have listened to him, but really just another person on the radio shouting over those who disagree with his ideology which we have many on both sides. I had already gone out and looked and I again I don't see anything he has done that makes me personally believe he deserves the high honor. But like you said Trump is the president and he can do as he pleases. I think he did it just to piss off the liberals...Which I think worked. To me it is just meeehh, let's move along.

Limbaugh probably saved AM radio. AM is only good for talk. If not for Rush, talk radio probably isn't viable today. You may or may not like it but, that alone would be perpetuating free speech....something supposedly valued in America.
