Why are the taxes collected from working Americans being given to any private school much less one with 52 billion dollars in the bank??

We are paying 35% of their operating budget

I don’t expect you to understand this, but it’s research grants. You know, where many of our innovations come from. They don’t all just materialize out of thin air or out of some billionaire’s stable of projects.

That’s a load of crap. They have 52 billion in the bank they can pay for it themselves.

I wonder what the last life changing discovery funded by our tax dollars is that has came out of Harvard???

Are you a troll here just to make MAGA look like complete morons?

The last one was 2024.

And here we see the central problem. Ignorant folk don’t truly understand how ignorant they are because why would they? Even with a world of knowledge at your fingertips, you choose to not go find that knowledge.

Whenever you see an article that says “Scientists discover……whatever,” there is a 99% likelihood that it was a government grant that allowed them to do that research…at a college or university.

$52,000,000,000 That's a lot of research, boys. How about Harvard spend a chunk of that before anymore of my tax dollars are sent to them?

Your tax dollars are sent to them because they lawfully requested and lawfully were granted those dollars according to rules and regulations that are currently in place. The federal government, for some reason, sees value in funding research because....wait for it....there is incredible value in it. Even the studies that we don't understand or see as "useless." Do you have any idea how many of our innovations and discoveries came in experiments and studies accidentally or incidentally? You might look it up. It's some pretty important stuff.

Imagine a world without the internet, or GPS, MRNA vaccines or the touchscreen on your iPhone. The science and technology that have become integral to our daily lives may never have existed, experts say, were it not for research funded by the federal government at American colleges and universities.

But as President Trump’s administration threatens to withhold billions of dollars in federal funding from colleges across the nation, the future of innovations like those – and America’s global leadership in research and development – could be at stake.

“It’s not hyperbole to say we could destroy a generation’s worth of scientific progress in this administration,” Jon Fansmith, senior vice president of government relations at the American Council on Education, told CNN.

“The implications are huge for every American, regardless of your political viewpoints.”

Endowments are meant to literally fund a university forever. So there are rules limiting how much money a school can withdraw from its endowment each year.

Last year, a $2.4 billion distribution from Harvard’s endowment accounted for more than a third of the university’s funding. But crucially, the university said 80% of that money was restricted for specific purposes, like financial aid, professorships and specific scholarships within certain schools.
