No way Peralta is a regular when he returns. Gyorko is your 3B until something explodes. Wong is hitting enough, and is seemingly the only plus defender on the IF. No need to screw with what works. Bigger question...What roster spot does he get? Assume it means Socolovich gets moved back to Memphis, but that leaves just seven in the bullpen.Honny going to Florida to rehab. Who gets screwed (Jed) when he gets back to the major club. The more possibilities MM has the worst the club gets.

Lemme rephrase...MO will fire MM's a$$ if he tries to play Jhoney everyday. Which is probably why Adams isn't in LF any longer. I feel like when his lineups get REALLY stupid, MO just sends down a lackey to relay the message. Sorta why I think they hired MM in the first place. Puppet. You seem to be forgetting Adams in left.
I'm starting to come around to your way of thinking. Not 100% there yet, but if Honny comes back and is inserted into the lineup right away I will be 1 step closer.Lemme rephrase...MO will fire MM's a$$ if he tries to play Jhoney everyday. Wong is the lowest rated defensive 2nd baseman with qualified stats. He has a -44 UZR/150. To put it into perspective.....D Murphy is just awful on defense. You know extremely small sample sizes taint UZR numbers, but he has been goofy erratic at times. And really, really good at times. It'll level out over the course of the season.Wong is the lowest rated defensive 2nd baseman with qualified stats. He has a -44 UZR/150. What about the pen? That's not looking so great either. Really, really good during the 9-2 stretch. Really, really bad outside of that. Here is the problem. The Cardinals starting pitching after 24 games is #1 in baseball with Leake, Lynn, and Wacha off to great starts. Despite this we are 12-12. Thats how bad the rest of the team is.
The two big weaknesses: defense and baserunning are awful. 25 baserunners thrown out in 24 games via pickoffs, doubled off on a fly ball, caught stealing or plain stupidity. #1 in baseball.
I haven't seen him at 2nd much, so only had numbers to go off. Was looking at Castro numbers when I read this, so just filtered out all qualified guysYou know extremely small sample sizes taint UZR numbers, but he has been goofy erratic at times. Mo is the guy who constructed this group. Even if MM is telling them to be aggressive I doubt he wants them to continue running into outs. The stuff they are doing on defense and the bases is beyond explanation. MM and Mo need to start looking for a new job. This is not a small sample size. It's been going on for 1 + yearsWhat about the pen? That's not looking so great either. Really, really good during the 9-2 stretch. Really, really bad outside of that.
But hey, at least the defense and base running looked good last night! Oh wait...When does MM start catching legitimate heat for this? It's not just one guy. These dudes are equal opportunity nimrods, especially on the bases. And it's not just this year.
When EVERYBODY that runs the bases makes the same mistakes...How is that the fault of the GM? Insane to think that's on anyone else other than the guy that handles the daily happenings. It's not easy to construct a competitive roster, and MO has done it every single year. Has refused to overspend and hamstring the organization for years moving forward. AA pitching is off the charts. AAA has position players that should be ready in a year. How baserunning and defense gets shifted to the GM is beyond me, other than him not firing the dingbat really responsible for it.Mo is the guy who constructed this group. I see. That was MM who dropped the ball right at him and then couldn't throw it to 1st. MM really needs to quit falling down when running through a stop sign. Both MM and MO have a stake in this abysmal baseball. If Mo gets credit for past records and MM doesn't then we will have to agree to disagreeWhen EVERYBODY that runs the bases makes the same mistakes...How is that the fault of the GM? Is Wong the only one making those mistakes? Spoiler alert...He wasn't the only one making them last night...or the night before...or the night before...or the season before. My point isn't to defend Wong, it's to point the finger directly at the manager.I see. That was MM who dropped the ball right at him and then couldn't throw it to 1st. As I said we will just have to agree to disagree. I am not a Wong fan and have mentioned it often, but I have also mentioned other players. Here is my point. These problems are the players!!! Does coaching have a part of this? Yes and I believe that MM has to share part of the blame and not all. Does roster construction have to share the blame? Yes and I believe Mo has to share part of the blame. My thoughts are this. The blame for this ugly baseball lies squarely on the shoulders of the players. I feel they are just not good enough to compete at the level they are at. I am going tonight and I hope to push my record to 3-2 but I have my doubts. When I watch these guys play I just don't get a positive feeling during the game. By the way I have yet to hear you say anything about the players and their ability. Maybe you should try to think critically for a moment. Is Wong the only one making those mistakes? Mo doesn't get credit for past records. Think critically for just a moment. Look at all the homegrown players (especially pitchers) on this roster. Look at the pitching in AA. Look at the regulars in AAA. I don't look at the result when pissing and moaning about MM, it's all about the process. It's not the record I'm giving him credit for, nor the record I'm critical of MM for. Been critical of MM and these same things long before now.
They make base running mistakes that any little league player would be in trouble for, much less ANY level higher than that. I still don't like our 3rd base coach. He runs guys into outs when they have NO chance to score. Oquendo ran guys into to outs sometimes by being aggressive and making the defense make plays/good throws. This dude seems to have no clue. I can't believe MLB players, not just Cardinals, still turn to look at the ball in the outfield behind them when going around 2nd instead of picking up their coach. That too is something drilled into your head from a very young age.As I said we will just have to agree to disagree.
