Stl high sports had huge article on Trinity today as they are the number 1 ranked
small school in st. louis area. Trinity coach said Lamar beat them up his
kids have never been hit that hard. He said they know the only way to have a chance
against Lamar is to pound weights and said they have dedicated their selves since dec.
getting stronger. Their QB who with out a doubt is the best QB in St. Louis has 47 div.
1 offers I know Clemson just offered him. They have 2 linemen with over 25 d 1 overs
a piece. They have added a wide receiver who runs a 4.4. BUT I thought they had enough last
year so I know they will be very talented but strength and coaching keeps them from title. Plus
Lutheran North is in their district and they have 5 div. 1 kids who already signed. And they have added a wide receiver from Vashon who had 880 yards in receptions last year and runs a 4.2 and
they added running back from Hazelwood West who rushed for 1450 yards last year in a 5A
school and has a scholarship to IL. So when they play each other their will be as many as 10 div 1
signees in the game. BUT who ever win that district Lamar will beat them.

Sounds like Lamar should just throw in the towel now!

How in the F does a team get great players from other schools ? Where's Mshsaa at... Jesus blatant recruiting right in front of them.. I'll be cheering Mtn Grove and Lamar on and hoping this team gets beat early in the playoffs

Few years ago the state was harassing MSHSAA about blatant recruiting in basketball in the St Louis area. A team not to be named paying for apartments for kids from Illinoise to live in and cars for them to drive while they played in Missouri.

If I remember right MSHSAA agreed to start investigating recruiting violations accusations from any source and put a stop to it. As usual after all the hearings and promises nothing came of it.

LOL Skins you are just now hearing about this? if you are a Private school the same rules don't apply to you like a public school You can recruit and in fact your players don't even have to live in Missouri! Ezekiel Elliott never lived in the state of Missouri but played for a Missouri Private school. I think this is what upsets most when debating the private versus public, its the fact that they can play by a completely different set of rules and MSHSAA turns a blind eye.

The offer letter deal is such a facade. My assumption is the vast majority of those offers are for little to no money, and are for nothing more than a preferred walk on spot. Good on the coaches for getting their players looks and a chance to go to the next level, but just because a kid gets promoted as having "X number of D1 offers" does not mean they are a no doubt D1 talent. IMO it's just a pissing contest between schools to make sure no one misses out on a big talent.

Good info Nwalls. I look forward to your updates through the year on Trinity/LN. Trinity was extremely talented last year, and young. With a little discipline and coaching, along with Lamar losing some speed and secondary experience, that game has me extremely nervous.

Drive through the parking lot of Rockhurst. Half the cars have kansas plates

In my personal opinion, SWMO coaches (by and large) do not do a good enough job of this.

Can anyone tell me how many 2011 Missouri High School graduates are in the NFL right now?

I think that is part of it. To SWMO coaches credit I do think it's probably an easier sell for those city coaches to get a scout to go to the KC/STL metro area where they can scout 10 teams with a potential of 4-5 kids on each team in lieu of driving to Lamar, WC, CJ etc to see one team with a couple kids.

I don't know, remember getting to talk to Tom Osborn one evening while he was in town looking at a single Webb kid. If the player is good enough they will come

D-1A schools or FBS (whatever you want to call it) can only offer full ride,. there are no partial scholarships. You either have an offer or you don't. Trinity has a lot of elite talent but Lamar has some pretty good talent too. They're just a better team, and even more so a better program. The kids are bought into every bit of the system at Lamar. That's why they won last year. If Trinity is able to do the same thing, they will be scary good. And yes they probably do recruit.

Interesting. I didn't know that.

So for example, when Mizzou offered Trinity's QB in summer 2016 (prior to his sophomore season), they were already offering a full ride? Not doubting you, I'm just ignorant on protocol at that level.

That just seems to make the whole deal even crazier that these schools take flyers on kids so young. Just to show my ignorance even more, do colleges have a limited number of these offers they can extend? Is that broken down to a certain quota per grade level? Just kind of interesting....

Yeah recruiting at that level is crazy! And they're allowed to have 85 scholarship players and it doesn't have to be split evenly between classes.

I'm not sure that is entirely true. Football is a headcount sport at the FBS level. That means that any athletic money received by a player counts as a full scholarship against the limit. They cannot split scholarships between players. They are not required to give a full scholarship but they have to count it as a full one against the limit. If a school wanted to save a little money, they could offer someone 50% but they couldn't use the other 50% on another player.

At least that's the way I understand it.

I will keep all you guys up to date .I wish they had blogs like this in St. Louis I
was very naïve last year shooting mouth off about Trinty and Parkway North winning class 2 and 4.So I will report how things are going who is playing well for them but you will not see me say either one can win the state. I learned my lesson don't bet against Southwest Missouri.

I found this......

1.) Scholarship and Money
For whatever reason, everyone loves to say that their son, daughter, nephew, neighbor, cousin, or friend is going to college on a full ride. But at the Division I-AA level, that is normally not the case. These schools have a set budget every year and the coaches can use it how they like. These programs normally offer partials to recruits and the numbers end up increasing as they start contributing. There are cases where the coaches will offer a full from day one but they are rare. Coaches at the Division I-A are required to offer all or nothing. If you play at this level, you will either be getting a full scholarship or be a walk-on. There is no options here.

He is correct. All football and hoops scholarships are 100 percent at the D1 level. D2 can split them but are capped at 35, although many haven't got the full 35 because they funding.

Or it could actually work like this (emphasis mine):

FBS teams are allowed a maximum of 85 players receiving athletically-based aid per year, with each player allowed to receive up to a full scholarship; FCS teams have the same 85-player limit as FBS teams, but are only allowed to give aid equivalent to 63 full scholarships. FCS teams are allowed to award partial scholarships, a practice technically allowed but essentially never used at the FBS level.
