Trinity vs Lutheran North District Title

I was really disappointed with Trinity to be honest. Incredibly talented, they might have as many as 20 future FBS players on the roster, but their offense was a mess, special teams was awful besides the return game and defensively they were undisciplined.

There was the obvious offsides that hurt them, but I counted at least 20 times throughout the game when there was uncertainty about who should have been on the field and kids ran on and off at the last minute. Inexcusable at this point in the season.

The most basic fundamental is having a clear understanding who is supposed to be where and when and if you don’t have that down I can’t really imagine you’re going to know what you’re supposed to be doing once you get there.

Wasting two time outs on the first possession of second half, having a delay of game of the first play after a kickoff just lots of stuff that you would rarely see at a class 4-6 program.

I don’t want to beat up on them too much because they almost won last despite all that, but ... I think a lot of those kids would have better served going to a better program and their schedule is going to get a lot tougher next year. Unless they improve at the little things, they are going to get run off the field in some of those games.

The QB is extremely talented, but had a bad game. On the other hand, he showed a lot of heart running down a kid after an INT that looked like he was going to return it for a TD late in the game. That was impressive.

Trinity 2019 WR Washington might be the most talented skill player I’ve seen this year — and that’s saying a lot. He, Cameron Brown, Ronnie Bell are easily the top 3 WRs in the state.

LN is much more disciplined and have some talented kids on the defensive side of the ball.

LN runs a similar style of offense as Lamar and that will make things interesting. The QB while poised, doesn’t really run it a lot and They have no passing game to speak of other than a quick hitter over the middle to Perkins. Their RBs are talented, fast and tough.

Lotts, can’t remember his first name, had a great game. Tough player.

If they have a weakness there it is that they start two freshmen and a sophomore on the offensive line. Their OL is good, just really young.

Overall, it was a great game between two talented teams and while I’m probably being a little too harsh here on Trinity, it is what it is. Too whom much is given, much is required.

As for the semifinals, man I’ve never heard a team talked about as much at a game with as much reverence as Lamar was last night — and all positive. That community should be proud because people in STL respect the crap out of them. I’m not entirely sure the opposite is true based on what I’ve read here, and that’s unfortunate.

I say Lamar wins by two TDs but they’ll have to play well.

Did you notice how Trinity lined up incorrectly on the onside kick to end the game causing two penalties in a row and they did it with 10 players on the field. The third time they lined up for the onside kick they still had 10 players on the field and ran a kid out late.

Really appreciate your review!! Would have loved to have been at the game!! Our town has a great respect for every team we play. It takes dedication and hard work to get this far!!

I’m not from Lamar, and I can only speak for myself, but my beef with both LN and Trinity is the shady practices to cyphon away the best players in the STL area (and more Trinity than LN because their coach blatantly said in the STL media that his players were going to go to whatever school he went to).

I was impressed with LN! Their fire and their game plan! As for Trinity, every game I’ve seen them play (all BIG games) they play flat and pouty and they seemingly have no game plan other than five-wide heave-ho or QB scramble if no one’s open (again, what you’d expect from a youth football coach).

Trinity clearly is the most talented team in the state, though (at least IMO...)

To be honest, I can forgive the on-sides kick situation as that probably was not a focus of practice throughout the season. I can't hold that against them, I mean they only punted a handful of times all year, let alone on-sides kick. But ... it was an ongoing issue throughout an entire game.

Lamars Run Defense is superb. Which should make for a great game to watch if LN runs the ball as well as people say they do.

Trinity may be the most talented team of players- who don't play with a team mentality. So much is made of the " individuals" with D-1 talent - it kills any TEAM effort they may ever have . That is what makes Lamar so successful - Hard work and not let the TEAM down spirit !!

I think you mean the PEOPLE of your town have great respect. A town is a man-made social construct, and is incapable of having thoughts or emotions, including repect for other towns or their teams.

Excellent review. Thanks for the info. Sounds like not much has changed with Trinity from last year. I remember watching the state game and feeling like they were superior athletes to Lamar, but they had zero game plan... just drawing plays up in the dirt and relying on their talent to do the rest. And definitely not the best attitudes, but I'm not the PC police, so to each their own...

I'm looking forward to seeing how LN's run game does against Lamars defense. Hearing they don't throw it around a lot definitely makes me feel a little more confident...

LN wins in a great game that lives up to the hype, 48-46. Regardless of how you feel about the programs, credit to LN for defeating the country's most talented team.
LOL. Do you even think before you spew. Maybe your talking about something other than football, I don't know, but they haven't come close to earning that remark for their accomplishments in football. WOW! You make me laugh.

He was referencing the article in the STL media where the LN coach is quoted as having heard that about Trinity from SEC scouts...

"Trinity clearly is the most talented team in the state, though (at least IMO...)"

Once again I am crying. LOL

For what it is worth I was laughed at earlier in the year when I predicted a Lutheran North victory.

I stand by that opinion. If that group of JUNIORS had Scott Bailey since their Freshman year instead of a youth football coach, they would beat every team in the state next year regardless of class.

I'd bet that if they had Scott Bailey for a coach they would probably have to forfeit the season due to lack of players. ;)

After having reviewed that game clip a couple of times I don't think you even have to dig as deep as Bailey. If LN's coach was the Trinity coach, Trinity would still be playing and Lamar would have an even bigger challenge than they have already.

Lamar's D is better than their offense, not every year, but this year it is true.

For several years now, the only way any team has beaten Lamar (or come close to beating them) is thru the air. Take advantage of them staying in man 100%, like CJ did for a couple years and the reason the trinity game was close last year.

A team that cant throw and is relegated to the ground doesnt have much a chance, at least not in my rule book. but hey! what do i know.

Not only that, but you have to be able to block long enough for your WRs to get downfield...

Jaelon Acklin's senior year Liberty had a huge, explosive offense, popping the top off defenses all year long. However, we would get penetration and pressure so fast that he was scrambling or getting rid of it before the play had a chance to develop. Ended in a shutout.

We were playing man free so got 2-3 picks from our saftey goin wherever he felt

Well Scott is a great coach. However, your statement is based on emotion and you cannot back it up with what they have accomplished. This is predominantly a female trait.

No, I think your still confusing accomplishment or skill with talent.

How do you define “talent”? Most scouts and talent evaluators define it as raw ability (not to be confused with “skill”, which can be learned)

Speed, for example, is a talent (the age old idiom “you can’t coach speed!”)

Also you’re kinda sexist
