What is everyone's opinion? Is better to go 1-2 and get 4th or go 2-1 and get the consolation championship?

In my writing, I use "fifth-place game" instead of "consolation championship." I'm just a picky old bird that way.

4th doesn’t even get a trophy in most tournaments. I can’t think of anyone who would think it’s better to win 1 game than 2.

Since CBS started broadcasting the semi-finals, I'd say fourth would be fine, because that meant you played on 'national television' for the semis. Pre-CBS, I might take fifth over fourth most years. Depends on how good of a win the first game would've been or how bad the semi-final loss would've been, etc.

NONE! Championship ONLY is all that matters. If you did not win it, it does not matter. Go home and get better or recruit better kids!

Little tough depending on the situation...I'd say depends on the seed, what if the team that loses the 3rd place game, is the team that beat the team that won 5th in the 1st round? I'm not sure if this means 5th place is better than losing in 3rd....

So if you are top 3 seed, you would throw your first game so you can go 2-1?
I think he is just saying he’d rather win 2 games instead of 1. Didn’t say anything about throwing a game. I’d say if you’re the 3 seed you would like to finish 3rd or better and all those scenarios result in at least 2 wins.

Depends on the tournament. Tournament we were just in the 4th place team beat the 5th place team by 2 points in the first round then lost next 2 while team they beat by 2 won both consolation games by double digits to finish 5th. As a coach I think it depends on your team and your expectations and who you are playing.

Yes!

I would actually say winning the Constipation Trophy is more valuable than winning the actual championship to be honest. In fact, most tournaments that I know should just skip the championship, third place and fifth place games and go straight to the seventh place game. Especially if it's one of those tournaments that has a JV team seeded eighth in a varsity tournament.

This is why I have been saying that the postseason should be designed just like AAU basketball tournaments

Step 1 — Create 157 pools of six teams each. Each pool can only have one good team.
Step 2 — Have those six teams play each other in pool play.
Step 3 — Use pool play results to seed the teams 1-6.
Step 4 — Create Six different championship brackets. Championship, Platinum, Gold, Silver, Bronze, Quartz.
Step 5 — Fill the Championship bracket up with all the teams that placed first in their pool. Place all the second-place teams in the Platinum Bracket. Place all the third place teams in the Gold Bracket. And so on.
Step 6 — Make each bracket double elimination with wrestle backs, constipation place games and 12the place trophies.
Step 7 — Steam it all on MSHSAATV at $45/game.

Everyone wins!
