Kearney can officially rename themselves Dangerfield...cuz they got no respect. It doesn't matter if you were in the semi-finals (Class 5 in 2013 and Class 4 in 2014?) Sure, they might not measure up to Webb, Hannibal, Carl Junction, West Plains, or even Westminster...but Platte County at #4? Kearney has a 9-1 record against them in the past ten meetings. And Harrisonville? Was anyone at the Ja,mbori? I wasn't, but I heard Kearney put two TDs on them, and Harrisonville got zero. Is that the other way around?

Class 4

1. Webb City (2-0)
2. Harrisonville (2-0)
3. Hannibal (2-0)
4. Platte County (2-0)
5. Carl Junction (2-0)
6. West Plains (2-0)
7. Westminster (2-0)
8. Kearney (2-0)
9. Vashon (2-0)
10. Cape Central (1-1)

1. Jamborees don't mean crap.

2. Kearney lost a lot from last year. They're still a good team with great tradition, but they haven't proven themselves yet this year.

3. It's going to be hard for Kearney to move up in the rankings, because they play two state-ranked opponents all year; Liberty North this week and then Platte County later in the year.

4. After this week we'll know a lot more about how good they are. But regardless, their strength of schedule isn't there, don't get me wrong....it's not a weak schedule. It's just not an ideal schedule for climbing the state rankings.

The good news is that the rankings mean jack diddly. If Kearney is worth a higher ranking then they'll prove that come playoff time.

Knowing Coach Jones, not getting any respect wont really bother. I would say he likes it that way. Use it as fuel, stay under the radar until its time to make a statement.

1) Maxpreps has them at #10 in the state overall.
2) Game 1: Central 55-15 Last year: 49-0 Game 2: Liberty 49-14 Last year: 42-7. (Looks like they are proving to be the same top 3-4 CLass 4 team again this year.)
3) Jambories don't mean anything, I get that, but when you have nothing else to go on...a team that got beat ranks higher?
4) Platte City? 1-9... It is the Show me state. Until they beat Kearney, they should be below them at the start of a season.

I'll have to agree with you on the Platte County argument, but it go from 0 points against Central to giving up a WHOPPING 15???? Hells bells my friend..........

With that being said, shouldn't Kearney be lower than Platte City until they beat them??
They're just rankings from a panel. That's all. Platte City had a whole lot more talent returning than Kearney and had a good season last year too, so that's where it's all coming from. They're just rankings. Nice to see where others think you stand with the rest of the state. We're only two weeks into the season and it's hard to judge teams off of two games. So they judge them off of returning starters and impact players and how they played last year. But it was LAST YEAR, so we'll see as the season progresses.

Yes...polls rhymes with trolls...which is really all they are good for. The games are what matters anyway. Kearney will demolish Platte City again, and still be ranked lower. LOL

Webb lost a lot from last year...entire Defensive line, and three from the O line...or visa versa...hasn't hurt them.

Well Kearney isn't Webb.

I agree with shoot ! Kearney is one of the few teams that I've seen that always plays with a lot of grit! I bet Coach Jones wants them to be unranked completely! Lol

Kearney isn't playing the easiest schedule of all time this year...as Tonka and LN are down. PC may be the only team they play of significance until well into the playoffs.

When was the last time Platte Country beat Kearney? For that matter gave them a close game?
Kearney beats St joe Central by 40. The following week Platte County beats St Joe 41-34. Until proven otherwise (losing) Kearney should be ranked #2.

Hey Joey, I think that ESPN needs you to talk about high school football bc you're so into stats that reality doesn't seem to pertain to you. If I was fishing and I caught a big fish on a hook, does that mean I should never lose a little fish on said hook.........because I caught the bigger one??????

Outside of Kearney, who have they played?

I just looked up all of the cities in clay county to be sure.... So unless Webb has lost to Liberty, Smithville, William Chrisman, or Truman sometime that I don't know about... I don't know who else he would be referring to LOL

For what little it's worth Kearney and Platte county have played a common opponent this year.

Kearney 55 St Joseph Central 15

Platte County 41 St Joseph Central 34

Kearney was much more dominant over central that pc was

Just so it is correct. I was a soph on that 96 Webb team and Springs didn't have that many turnovers if any. I remember that game clearly. It was a gutwrenching loss. We, however, fumbled inside the two yard line w/ no contact and missed two field goals. If it wasn't for Tucker Woosley, their fullback who was a freaking beast, Springs would had trouble scoring. Three turnovers inside the redzone.....where do you come up with this stuff? Can I buy one of your fiction books? Lol.

platte is down this year if it was not for 21 points on special teams for platte chrisman would have beat platte, yes i know its part of the game

I was at the game...I remember at least two Excelsior turnovers inside their own 45. My impression of the game is that Springs did everything they could to give away the game. Wish I had the stats on the game...my memory is SH*T. I remember that last off tackle run by Woolsey...like 15 yards for a TD. he was a six-time All-American in the shot put, a Verizon Academic All-American, and a four-year letter winner in both football and track & field for Northwest Missouri State. He helped lead the Bearcats football team to a pair of National Championships (1998-1999) and four consecutive conference crowns as an All-MIAA fullback.

I find all of that interesting, if not conflicting.
