Did a little math, and someone might want to check this, but according to my math, out of 53 total innings in the WS....

Mets had a lead through 24 of them

It was tied after 16 of them

And Royals only led after 13 of them.

Does this speak to destiny, clutch hitting, statistical outlier, luck, or all of the above? I can't imagine a team winning the series in 5 games while being behind in the majority of innings played. Maybe it's more common than I think. Insight?

Royals outscored playoff opponents 51-11 from the 7th inning on. That's a pretty amazing stat. Not sure what it says other than their bullpen was much better than their opponents. But the Mets crapped their pants the last two games in the field. With mediocre defense they could have won both. The Royals were similar to what the Cards did during the regular season. They just kept plugging away and things went their way late more than not. They made the plays and their opponents didn't.
