Any more information about the Carthage games? I don't recall us ever beating Webb City by that much. Is the Galena game against Galena, KS or Galena, MO?
Because of the point system in place at the time, undefeated teams often didn't make the playoffs. It's similar to the point system that is in place now to seed the District, however back then you were penalized for player small schools.
I'd like to see a list of all of the undefeated teams that were shut out of the playoffs in the "points" era. Thanks so much.
Just click on Realray's link and go to the rankings...1954-1979...you'll see like 16 teams that were undefeated yet not in the playoffs...Hazlewood Central, Harrisobville, Branson...etc...I'd like to see a list of all of the undefeated teams that were shut out of the playoffs in the "points" era.

Chillicothe was more than paid back for the injustice by hosting a couple of "state title" games at their place.Chillicothe used to always play rival Trenton on Nov 11th (unless that was a Sunday) for a big veterans day rivalry game. Supposedly, in the early years of the state play off point system, points for wins were only given for games played before a certain date, which was before Nov 11th, so the Hornets win over Trenton did not count towards points, and allegedly that kept Chillicothe out of the play offs. It was also the last year that the game was played on Nov 11th lol.
The early point system, combined with 4 teams from each class in the playoffs caused some problems.
1972 and 1978. Not sure how that was decided, or why it wasn't played in a neutral site. The 1978 game was in a steady rain. Any one know if that was common for a team to host their own state title game back in the early days and how the site was selected?Chillicothe was more than paid back for the injustice by hosting a couple of "state title" games at their place.

Monett's 77 championship was won in Monett. I believe home field was rotated by district. Not certain?1972 and 1978. Not sure how that was decided, or why it wasn't played in a neutral site.
