Take Your Starters Out

They will likely have to get by the winner between Thayer and Neelyville. They upset Neelyville in the quarters at 3R last year. I'm sure Oran is better than last season but so is Neelyville, and Thayer is still unbeaten. Should be a packed house for that quarter final again this year. Yes Cauble is likely well over 2000 by now but I haven't seen it posted on here or semoball.
I went to the Oran-Dexter game tonight and asked a guy I know from Oran where Cauble stands now. She had 2,511 points going in and added 30 more in their big win over Dexter this evening. She now has 2541 points with district games left, and most likely beyond that, remaining this year. If she keeps up her average she'll be over 2600 points whenever her junior season ends.

It's hard to see any team stopping Skyline from at least reaching the Final Four and probably winning the state title. Their defense is usually too much for school's their size to deal with.

Cauble went past 2500 career points a few weeks ago. This is another case where a LOT of those points are scored after she should be out of the game. She has outscored several opponents this season and has achieved that in 2-2.5 quarters. When you score 45 in a 5-15 point game those are "good" points. But when you score 45 and you lead your opponent by 40 after three quarters, you have no business being in that game anymore. Not blaming her ... her coach has told her to stay in the game ... I blame coach.

Just for clarification, this reads like she is only playing 2-2.5 quarters... Am I reading that correctly.

Also, while I don't necessarily disagree with your assertion that she should be taken out in all blowouts, I will play devil's advocate for a second. If they are beating lots of teams like that (and judging by her point total, they are), why should she constantly be punished for her opponents being bad teams? I know it might sound harsh, but it is their job to stop her--not the job of her or her coach. She clearly has put in the work to be good, she should be able to enjoy the fruits of that rather than be relegated to the bench for offenses not her fault.

I'm not saying I agree with what I just wrote, but it is something I think about when conversations like this occur.

She often plays 3.5 quarters no matter what the score is. She has often outscored the opposition after 2.5-3 quarters of play.

I understand your question and I guess I didn't explain myself very well. The starters usually play 3.5 quarters a night no matter the score. Starters begin to sit, usually one-by-one, with Cauble being the last one to leave.

If your truly doing right, a sophomore should be playing and getting time. Good programs aren't built by chance. Totally feel young players need to be in there for experience and to prevent injury to the scorer. When you're coaching most of the time two things can happen and both are bad

#1 Setting a scoring record against a 1-19 team up 30+ late in the 4th quarter seems a little bush league. Set/break a record against a better opponent unless you were close in the first half.

#2 Playing varisty starters in jv game is classless, especially if you have enough on the jv roster to play the game. Maybe the flu hit the jv team or injuries. If there were no other options on the varsity bench except for the starters to come down and play so the jv game didn't get cancelled then maybe. I would hope the jv coach wouldn't play the varisty starters together at the same time.

I think sometimes at the smaller C2 schools and below, the varsity head also coaches the JV teams.

Agree, but it should be whoever is line to be the next man up on the varsity team. A couple of seasons, I had 6-8 seniors who got most of the minutes on varsity. I played 5 jrs down on JV to get them game experience. They went undefeated, but had to do that to prepare for next season.
