THE OZARKS
Mountain Grove (7-4)
After starting the season 0-3 Head Coach Swofford righted the ship and won 7 games in a row, including wins over Thayer & Mountain View Liberty. His first season at the helm has the program trending up for sure. Look to see more from the Panthers next year (though we know I’m a “Grove Hater”, like some on here have pointed out before LOL)

West Plains (8-4)
There were a lot of nay sayers and doubters but Wyatt lead the Zizzers to another district championship and just almost back to a 2nd semifinal in 3 years.
Joel Wyatt has done more with less in his time at WP than a lot of people expected him too(including the local pitchfork & torches mob)

Fair Grove (13-1)
I was behind them from the get go as many were, but I would still say there were probably plenty of people who didn’t expect them to make the title game, and when they did, didn’t expect them to hang with Lamar.
The Eagles are 25-2 in the last two years with their only losses being a semifinal loss @ Valle and a state championship loss to Lamar.
FG played 4 playoff games in the last two years and didn’t get to host a single one of them.
Hats off to the staff and players, particularly the senior class at FG. Heck of a job.

Mountain Home(AR) (10-3)
I heard this would be there year that it all comes together for Ary and Acklin down in lake land, but never did I imagine it would be a 10-win season. I believe it was MH first 10 win season in over 20 years.
If only some of you knew how truly terrible that program was when he took over 6 years ago.
Going 10-3 with 2 of those losses being to the state champion and the other to the state runner up is definitely not a bad showing.

Salem(AR) (11-3)
Another team I knew would have a solid year but never did I imagine they would be playing for an Arkansas 3A championship tonight.
Former long time Thayer head man Billy Webber joined the staff a few years ago after retiring from Thayer and MOHSFB and I’m not saying that he’s the reason, but having him on staff certainly doesn’t hurt.

What are some of y’all’s surprises from this year?

Lee's Summit.

Thayer winning as many as they did was surprising to me especially with their QB from last year deciding to not play.

Clever getting some wins.

Class 2 was between Valle, Warsaw, Higginsville (LC-1), Fair Grove, Bowling Green, and ,,,,,,,,Lamar (the presumptive juggernaut),,,,,closest C2 race in years, lots of close contest in the quarters on,,,,ps chaotic fan where did your boys end up?

St Vincent (12-1) lost in C1 semi to Adrian. Good to see Indians make a playoff run. Cross town Perryville went 10-2. and I believe first district title on over 20 years. Good year of football for Perry County.

Perryville public had a good year for sure (kudos to them), but for the record, they did not win a district title. Festus won that district.

Are you referring to WP? That’s who I’ve normally followed closely. I don’t have any kids so.. 🤣🤣

I followed Fair Grove and Hillcrest closely this year and watched WP when I could.

Hillcrest QB going down early in the season devastated that team. Could have “possibly” squeaked out their first winning record in awhile or at least .500 but with the poor OL play, not sure having the starting QB play all year would have made THAT much of a difference.

Definitely agree that Class 2 was definitely the closest race. Any of those 6 teams could have made it to the title game. Made the Class 2 playoffs very fun to watch. Very few blowouts.

Salem(AR) ended up winning the 3A championship down there last night. Started the season 3-3 and won 9 in a row including the last one. Congrats to Webber and the other members of that staff.
Salem is about a 30 mile drive south of West Plains for those not familiar with BFE

Sounds like that your beloved BFE had a very successful season overall... You and Queasy need to hit that Mexican joint in Cabool and have a few celebratory rounds..! 😝 😜 🤳

Nobody is talking, in C2 circles, about Pembroke Hill. They also had a great season and didn't get blown out down in Lamar.

Pierce City went from 2 wins last season to 7 wins this season with a new coach. Couldn't get over the blue comet hump and lost 2 to them. They were up on Houston with less than a minute left. On 4th and forever, Houston's QB couldn't handle the snap and fell on the ball. They had a first game brain fart when a PC player piled into him. Fresh set of downs and Houston goes on to win in OT. Played their worst game of the year against a good Ash Grove team and lost by 2.

But,,, Marionville not winning Class 1 was the biggest surprise to me. I wasn't surprised that Adrain won it all. They are in the mix every year.

Watched the Salem game last night and they was the real deal. Nothing fancy just hard solid running it down their throats. Congratulations to the Greyhounds.

Were you surprised or not??? Make up your mind! 😅

I feel as if some people were down on Adrian this year. Basically the same Adrian team minus a running back and a few offensive lineman that (had a lead or was trailing by a few points, can’t remember, going into the 4th quarter against Lamar last year )

Adrian had a remarkable run the last 3 years. 8 years really but the last 3 teams were dudes.

This year the primary difference was lack of injury. There wasn't much depth on the line at all. A pretty good running back moved to tackle if that tells you anything (Team first).

Adrian had the lead on lamar in the 4th q last year and as you recall 55 was out and 22 got knocked out first play of 2nd half. That team just mauled people all year . You could see the line just wearing people down by the middle of the 3rd quarter with the rotation of 8 kids. Taking 55 out of that rotation hurt (plus he was an outstanding LB).
44 taking over at QB when qb1 went down in 2nd game until later in the season was great. Then he took over again during the butler game when qb1 was sidelined and said gimme the dang ball and threw 2 back to back TDs the first of which was 4th and forever. I don't think you can discount the contribution those seniors made (10 and 12 also come to mind).

The physicality of last year's team was such that I know the coaches would get ticked because refs would change the way they called the games in the 2nd half to protect the losing team. That didn't help the team in the playoffs.

Yes, I do agree. Also I recall that #77 didn't really play much on offensive or defense all year until the playoffs came around and made a big impact defensively in that Lamar game. I don't keep up with Adrian's team very often but from watching last years Lamar game compared to this year's Marionville game and state championship game ( Yes I know two different classes). I noticed last year that #22 was more of a get him out into space and let him outrun everyone, vs this year it appeared to be more of a " We are going to run your a** over and wear you down for 4 quarters with #33 and mix in #42 & #36. Shout out to the coaching staff to figure out each year what kind of team they are going to be.

Back to the big #77 in my opinion he was also a big part of Adrian success this year. I saw multiple time this year were that kid would draw a double team ( sometimes a triple team) and that would lead to the linebackers free to make a play. Sometimes the double or triple team wouldn't even be enough. Plenty of tackles I saw while being double and tripled team.

I agree with most of that!

77 played defense most of last year but there was a good rotation due to the number of dudes on that team.

22 would get into space because that's what he was good at. Different kind of runner for sure.

I'd have loved to play Marionville last year to compare notes. I think we all know how that woulda turned out.

I think it would have been a much more competitive class 1 championship game last year! Although I do think Adrian getting bumped to class 2 last year was very beneficial to this years team.

I wonder if that #77 has any college offers.

He was very solid defensively this year ( class 1 D player of the year)
