St. Louis Sumner once a Missouri HS football powerhouse of the 1970's, 80's and early 90's no longer has football in 2019. This season they merged with Soldan to allow their former players to play football. I know things change over time, but kind of sad to see a once great program decline to the point of no longer being able to field a team.

Webb City beat Sumner in 1989 for their first ever state Championship. They lost to them in the state finals in 1990 . I heard they were really great back then . I heard rumblings of them having like 9 d1 guys but I was 5 years old so I couldn't say for sure. Wonder what happened?

From other articles I have read declining population in the Ville area of St. Louis has lead to declining student enrollment at the school. Also legendary coach Lawrence Walls has stated in other interviews that the St. Louis desegregation program helped lead to declining enrollment as students were able to attend schools in the suburbs.

"Trouble is, there's virtually no way to pinpoint the motivation behind a transfer, concedes MSHSAA executive director Becky Oakes."

Haha...and that's the reason we have little D1-athlete hoarding private schools and suburban football magnet schools like Staley that deplete other district schools, or players moving from tiny Central Missouri towns to live in apartments in KC or Lee's Summit.

The Sumner Program was a great one for many years, my Precious. Hall of Fame Coach Larry Walls used the wing-T offense, didn’t he?
Yes, he used it well, my Precious. Deception and misdirection mades Sumner’s cheerleaders (Tasty cheerleaders!) chant “Who dat? Who Dat wit da ball?”
No one could tell, could they, My love?
No, they couldn’t. Notable alums include half back Anthony Stanford who started for OU during a Barry Switzer national championship team. Stafford’s senior year included a championship after beating Tony VanZandt And Hazelwood Centrals
Gollum! Gollum!

But Gollum, AKA Smeagol, barely has any hair at all. His corruption by the One Rings connection Sauron twisted and deformed Smeagol. Which is why he became Gollum, which he is actually named for the sound he makes when trying to talk. So being covered in hair, is not accurate Joe.

Yeah, what’s the deal with Yoda? He’s supposed to be like the wisest entity in the galaxy, yet he can’t even master the most basic use of the English language.
“Around the survivors, a perimeter create.”
This thing couldn’t pass a sophomore language arts class.
Yoda is the Jedi Master,,,,I have a feeling it’s everyone else has it screwed up

Gollum! Gollum!

They had a D lineman named James Gregory who started at Alabama. Obviously they won the national championship in the early 90's.

It's funny, comic book Starlord is a bit different than movie Starlord. Still a fun character. First appearance of Starlord was in Marvel Preview #4, which is actually a magazine that Marvel published. The first COMIC BOOK appearance was in Marvel Spotlight issues 6 and 7.

Not sure of the year, but you can tell by the turf, a portion of the infield dirt and turf cutouts that it is old Busch Stadium. Looks like they are playing Hazelwood Central.
Was this game at Busch stadium in ‘84?
Quarterfinals or Semifinals?
