Strafford

Let the season play out. The current players will determine how well the team will do. They will do just fine. The past is the past.

3 seniors will most likely start. After that, there are a few juniors, a few soph and another senior looking for time. Roytics- sounds like you’re the hating kind. Must be rough.

No hate. In fact, ultimate respect for what Strafford was able to accomplish over the last several years. I will say that not all schools have the luxary of being located in an area where "transfer" students are attracted. With that said, private schools do it all the time, so more power to the public schools doing what they can to keep up, and in Strafford's case bypass.

Strafford beat Blue Eye 54-46 last night at their place. They look very beatable to me, and got the benefit of some good ol' home cooking from the refs, probably the same ones that allowed Hayley Frank to foul 8 times a game.

SWMO refs have in the past adopted players as the resident darling of the hardwood. I remember Hannah Wilkerson getting EVERY call when she was in hs. Sparta had them beat in state tourney i think sectionals and a kids shoe came off...ref didn't let her tie it and allowed miller to inbound...Coach Songer ended up getting a technical...etc.. also if the kids played 5 nights a week at the courts and became tight with the refs...there was always there BUT in this case..Hayley didn't get favored. She is an amazing player and teammate. I would have liked to see the Franks stay at Lebanon and Chittendon stay at Catholic or Kickapoo. my how that would have changed class 3... Fair Grove or Mt Vernon may have a ring.

I'm not taking anything away from Hayley, she was, and still is, a great player and person, but in the games I saw she clearly got the benefit of the calls. She's been getting into some foul trouble at Mizzou so maybe that is a result of her not getting away with some of the stuff she got away with in high school. Again, not saying she's not a great player, but the superstar treatment from refs really is a thing and it occurs in high school just as it does in college and the NBA

Blue Eye is pretty good though. Strafford will get Walnut Grove or Miller next week in Ash Grove Tournament. That will be another tough game. They will get everybody’s best shot till the streak is over. Everyone wants to be the team to end it.

I saw no home cookin. I saw a two time all stater held to 12 pts. I saw a team realize they cant guard so they went to a zone. I saw two well coached teams play sloppy in the first game of season. Neither team shot as well as they are capable. Better team won though. Good luck to both teams- good kids, good coaches.

She was held to 12 in due part to sitting because of foul trouble including a bad charging call in the second quarter that was her third foul. But hats off to Strafford. They were the better team and could have shot better and in general play better than they did

One call in the first half that looked good to me and the licensed ref who was on the play doesnt make or break a game or player stats. Maybe be more careful with two fouls..maybe dont put your head down and drive on a team that plays REAL team defense.... there was plenty of hacking and displacement (by Blue Eye)going on when Strafford got rebounds that were looked over. Still confused on where the home cookin was especially since neither team reached double bonus. To say they only won because of being at home is clearly ignorant. To connect it to your opinion Frank was given treatment..... please. Both teams will do well. Tough game for first game of season.

There were two calls in the fourth quarter that went Strafford's way. One was an offensive rebound put back on the right side that was missed, but the ref called a foul about a second AFTER the shot was missed. There was no foul on the play. Both free throws good. Another was when Jones I think it was basically plowed over the smaller defender in the lane. Should have been a charge, but nope, a block. And they called it a shooting foul when it didn't look like she had gotten into her shot yet. Both free throws good.

Those and the bad charging call IMO in the first half were the three that stood out.

Again, not taking anything away from Strafford. They have a good shot at getting back to the FF and in the grand scheme of things, arguing about calls in the first game of the year doesn't mean much. I'm just telling you what I saw. You see it differently. Agree to disagree.
