Stoops retiring as of today

sad day in Soonerland. Happy we had Riley locked down to take over

Jake: a coach leaving does not always mean trouble, as much as you would like it in this case.

They beat Auburn last season and he was 9-9 in bowls...ignorant question or you're just stupid.

Any big bowl games? A National Championship under Stoops isnt a big bowl win? Sugar Bowl wins against Alabama and Auburn arent big bowl wins. He also has a Rose Bowl and a Fiesta Bowl win.... I tend to agree with the previous poster.

I'm surprised a little he retired this year but not shocked. 18 years is a long time at one school in this era and I'm thinking at the very least he would like to take a little time off. I figure he will take a year or so off and then will wind up coaching somewhere else.

Short of Saban or Dabo Sweeney jumping to Norman I think Riley is as good of a replacement as fans can hope for.

Timing seems curious

When you win a National Championship in your second year, the expectations get a little silly. 11 of his 18 years OU finished in the top 10. And it's not like they were rolling when he took over.

Never had a losing season. 14 ten win seasons out of 17. Owned Mizzou.

I'd feel a little mislead if I had just signed with OU to play for Stoops. I don't know if him retiring at the end of the season would've lead to any tangible changes in recruiting though.

Bob Stoops' dad dropped dead of a heart attack at age 54. Stoops is rumored to have some heart problems recently. I think that was a big factor. Stoops set the bar pretty high but I think Riley is a very good replacement.
