State Rankings

About a decade ago I helped with the state football and basketball polls in the media. Football is so much easier than basketball. When the media still did a basketball poll literally we would each submit our local teams, give their updated record and some notes and we sent them to the group... from there one person would try to make sense of it all, generate a top 10, which from there was the gospel unless you had some real reason why it should be changed.
Way too much emphasis on state polls.
That said, Class 2 Adrian is 13-1 with it's only loss to aforementioned Class 3 Eldo, by 3 in its opener.

I think I mentioned Adrian in another post. Agree they are very good. Class 2 is just so loaded. Miller is #1 but could easily lose some games coming up. Starting with a tough one tonight against Butler who has only 3 losses. 2 to Eldo and a 1 point loss to Adrian. If Miller wins they will get Eldo again. Miller gets East Buchanan who is #2 in Springfield in a few weeks as well. Skyline and Blue Eye also play really tough schedules as well.

Agreed Class 2 is loaded

Cape Notre Dame moved to 13-2 tonight with a 23 point win over Jackson at Jackson. They have now beaten Jackson by 18, 19, and 23 yet Jackson remains ranked in Class 5 and ND unranked. I think ND also has a win over Park Hills Central that is ranked in Class 4. Guess it’s good in MO that teams aren’t seeded for post season play by the MBCA ranking system lol.

Clever gets beats 20 and has a xmas tourney 40 point loss and doesn't fall in the rankings? California has beaten southern boone twice.... Maryville and Licking both just lost to class 2 schools. Thayer just lost to an average Salem group and struggled with Ava.... Pay attention ...
And Richland, who beat Licking, lost to Newburg in their next game, but yet, there they are at #10. It would be helpful if all teams were required to post their scores, at least on the MSHSAA website, SOMEWHERE where people could go. You'd think with how hard they forced baseball teams to enter in pitch counts in 24 hours or whatever the timeframe is, they could do that with all sports.

I like that idea! If you look at MSHSAA’s school pages and the schedules where the games/scores are posted, you’ll see on Newburg’s schedule that they lost to Richland. Look at Richland’s and it shows they lost to Newburg. Both pages have the correct score though. You would think MSHSAA’s database would at least flag the discrepancy.

I say that if you can't maneuver your way through the MSHSAA website and enter things in correctly, it should count as a loss for both teams and ding them in District play! :)

Here are the latest rankings. Maybe the coaches who do the voting are reading this forum since El Dorado Springs is finally ranked :D

South Calloway moved up to 5th after their convincing win over Skyline.

California moves into the top 10 of Class 3. They were supposed to play Skyline on the 23rd but I'm going to assume that game got canceled.

Tipton falls out of the rankings in Class 2 after losing to Bolivar

Kickapoo doesn't have a great record but they just beat ranked Ozark by 8, lost by 1 to undefeated Carl Junction and by 2 to Rolla and are about to get two key players back. With the possible exception of their West Plains game on February 10th they should win out, I know they are better than those Kansas City area teams (The Blue Springs teams, Truman, Staley) with the exception of Liberty.

Class 1
1 Walnut Grove
2 Community
3 South Iron
4 Green City
5 Norborne
6 Leeton
7 Montrose
8 Worth County
9 Eminence
10 Wheatland

Others receiving votes: Meadville, Climax Springs, Macks Creek

Class 2
1 Miller
2 Hartville
3 East Buchanan
4 Ellington
5 Blue Eye
6 Oran
7 Skyline
8 Thayer
9 Wellington-Napoleon
10 Richland

Others receiving votes: Neelyville, Tipton

Class 3
1 Whitfield
2 Strafford
3 Clever
4 Palmyra
5 South Callaway
6 Maryville
7 Southern Boone
8 Licking
9 California
10 El Dorado Springs

Others receiving votes: Miller Career Academy, St. Pius X (KC)

Class 4
1 Incarnate Word Academy
2 West Plains
3 Rolla
4 Carl Junction
5 Kearney
6 Sullivan
7 Lincoln College Prep
8 Nevada
9 Ste. Genevieve
10 Central (Park Hills)

Others receiving votes: Union, St. Clair

Class 5
1 Liberty
2 Rock Bridge
3 Jefferson City
4 Francis Howell Central
5 Kirkwood
6 Truman
7 Blue Spring South
8 Ozark
9 Staley
10 Blue Springs

Others receiving votes: Summit, North Kansas City

Kickapoo lost to Ozark by 8. They are competing without multiple starters. Not sure if clever is above South Callaway.

Kickapoo lost 2 players during the Carl Junction game alone and they had only brought 8 total players.

On the MSHSAA site it says Kickapoo beat Ozark. Strange...

I agree that South Calloway should move up in the Class 3 standings

Kickapoo was winning until their center (Green I think) fouled out.

I heard she fouled out in the third quarter. Without her on the court, Poo isn't the same team, especially with the injured players still out.

On the Ozark MSHSAA page, it correctly has Ozark winning. Someone needs to fix the Kickapoo page to show that they lost.

I have to correct this post. I guess most folks figured out when I said they lost 7 guys but it was the P.B. boys that beat Jackson, not the girls. I forgot which board I was on.

has anyone seen Miller Career academy play?? i think they are legit but not getting love in the polls. this season the winner of the STL area is winning state.

Strangely no one on here seems to follow the St Louis and KC teams. It’s all SW and central Mo pretty much

I think a LOT of folks read about semo area stuff but not many post from this area either.

Liberty Girls are the best team in the KC area. Having beaten St. Thomas Aquinas, who was number 1 in 5A in KS. Then beating Rock Bridge who was 1 in Class 5. That team is deep and are very good. Seen them play twice, they are possibly a team that can win it all in Class 5.

jeff city has 4 D1 players You can’t out talent that

Curious if Callaway git in foul trouble during that game against california

No, but California's depth was the deciding factor. When you can press the entire game and go 12 deep. South Callaway didn't go very deep. South Callaway shot 24 free throws. The foul count was definitely in South Callaway's favor. South Callaway led 22-14 early in 3rd quarter before California closed the game with a 35-18 run.
