I know they are for fun and mean nothing but at least put a little effort into them. How do you have Tipton above Skyline who beat them by 30. Skyline may have several more loss but are playing big schools. Tarkio is number #1 in class 2 and have only 3 wins against class 2 schools. Their other 10 wins are against class 1 schools. At least they finally got Walnut Grove at #1 in class 1.

Complete rankings. I agree that Tarkio #1 in Class 2 is a joke. They would lose by 20 to any of the ranked Southwest Missouri teams and even some unranked ones. In general, the rankings are more accurate for the bigger two or three classes than the smaller ones

Class 1
1 Walnut Grove
2 South Iron
3 Community
4 Wheatland
5 Leeton
6 Norborne
7 Green City
8 Eminence
9 Montrose
10 Concordia

Others receiving votes: Worth County, Cairo

Class 2
1 Tarkio w/ Fairfax
2 Miller
3 East Buchanan
4 Hartville
5 Ellington
6 Tipton
7 Neelyville
8 Skyline
9 Blue Eye
10 Thayer

Others receiving votes: Oran, Mansfield, Sparta

Class 3
1 Whitfield
2 Strafford
3 Clever
4 Licking
5 Palmyra
6 Maryville
7 Southern Boone
8 St. Pius X (KC)
9 Lutheran North
10 South Calloway

Others receiving votes: Mt. Vernon, Eldorado Springs, Miller Career Academy,

Class 4
1 Incarnate Word Academy
2 West Plains
3 Rolla
4 Carl Junction
5 Lincoln Prep
6 Kearney
7 Nevada
8 Sullivan
9 Central (Park Hills)
10 Ste. Genevieve

Others receiving votes: Union, St. Clair, North County

Class 5
1 Jefferson City
2 Rock Bridge
3 Liberty
4 Kirkwood
5 Francis Howell Central
6 Truman
7 Blue Spring South
8 Jackson
9 Ozark
10 Staley

Others receiving votes: Kickapoo, Park Hill

The key word in the second sentence: Quality. Anyone who isn't part of the process can rant pretty much anything they desire.

I would love to have “The Process” explained. I am not trying to pick on Tarkio and I’m sure they have a good team. I would just like someone who has a vote on the poll explain why they would rank a team number 1 in class 2 that doesn’t have any quality wins and has only played class 1 schools. East Buchanan would beat them pretty easily. They are in the same district so maybe they can prove me wrong. Again I understand these Rankings mean nothing and are for fun.

All I know is that all or some of the girls head coaches in the state vote who they think should be top 10. I doubt that many coaches will respond to those requests so it ends up being just a few coaches that decide what the rankings should be and they may be disproportionally located in one part of the state

Where do you get your information on how voting is conducted? Or is it only a guess?

It’s partly a guess but I’ve been told by a head coach that they get asked to rank their top 10 in whatever class of schools that they coach.

The guessing part is that all the coaches get asked and not every one will rank the teams, or if they do they don’t always put a lot of thought or research into it. Most coaches are only aware of the teams in their general vicinity and if they rank a team from another part of the state it’s largely based on reputation

I would bet that most coaches realize that these rankings are a complete farce and simply ignore them. The Class 2 rankings are a perfect example from top to bottom. Class three is a mess too. California has beat both Southern Boone and South Callaway and they are not even getting votes.

The root of the issue is that the polls have zero impact on anything. They aren't used for postseason play, like in a number of states, so why would the coaches vote?

Like I said before, the class 4 and 5 rankings seem to make more sense than the smaller class rankings do. Maybe because the bigger schools are mostly centered around the larger cities in the state so the coaches know more about the teams whereas the smaller schools are all scattered around the state and generally don’t get the same publicity

Tipton has made winning look easy until they play a school that is not 1A. I Donny know if they want multiple 20-win seasons OR make it past districts? If the latter is the case, play some better comp

can the Backes girl play at the naia level
Well, I would have ask you whether Division I or Division II but since they are combining starting next season I will answer that it depends on the program. I think good quick solid perimeter defenders will stifle her and if she occasionally breaks them down she will have college defenders protecting the paint, not just a high school big. But, I think she can make a roster and contribute to a program.

California/Tipton used to be an annual game, but they haven't been on our schedule last two seasons. 10 miles apart and don't play each other. The boys teams still play yearly.

St James playing well, defeated Blair Oaks to win Fatima tournament from the 3 seed. Hoop squad can st James beat Licking in Districts?

I don’t know why they wouldn’t play. Tipton needs to find a way to win that next game after districts. They take a loss last night, played well, and probably get better in those than winning by 30+.

If the district is at St James I'm taking the Lady Tigers. Mt view Liberty could make some noise in that district. Has anyone seen Whitfield girls in person?

it is at mt view liberty. St James will probably face them in semis. St James defeated them earlier in year but I believe it was at st James. Not positive

I am sure it didn't help that we beat them big in 2015 (89-41), 2016 (59-23), 2017 (80-37). But they did beat us in 2014. Still I would think being just down the road, they would want a good 3a program on their schedule and help prepare them better for post season play.

Someone asked earlier how these rankings come to be. Saw this earlier today and thought I'd share

Clever gets beats 20 and has a xmas tourney 40 point loss and doesn't fall in the rankings? California has beaten southern boone twice.... Maryville and Licking both just lost to class 2 schools. Thayer just lost to an average Salem group and struggled with Ava.... Pay attention ...

Yeah, I know the rankings don't mean anything but it would be nice to see some rhyme or reason to what they are doing with them.

El Dorado Springs has lost one game - by 6 to #1 Class 2 team Miller - and aren't even receiving votes in a pretty weak Class 3 field?

Clever doesn't move down because there's really no one to move up other than EDS.

Miller Career Academy maybe?
Lutheran North just beat Helias who just beat Strafford and they fall out.
South Callaway Southern Boone or California would all be the favorites in district 10 or 12. Strafford still the favorite in that quad but those 3 are killers and they dont get the respect they deserve.

This happens every year in all classes. I guess trying to figure out a better solution would be a good path to take. I’m not sure what the solution would be but this has been a common argument for years.

South Calloway and California both play Skyline in the next 3 days. Interesting to see how that goes.

The easiest thing to do would be to partner with maxpreps, require coaches to put scores onto their MSHSAA schedule like football has to, and those scores automatically get transferred onto maxpreps for their rankings. They are not perfect but they are way better than the human polls.

It is ridiculous that in 2020 some of these teams still don't post scores or even schedules until the very end of the season.

BINGO!!!

Would love to see all the Missouri teams enter their scores and stats on Max Preps. Right now, maybe 15-20% do it.

And just beat Southern Boone again last night. Their 2nd loss on year, both to Lady Pintos.
Its a toss up really. Southern Boone beat California on neutral floor I believe. California has beat Southern Boone twice on their home floor. Southern Boone has a big win against Boonville who is 12-1. So, really both being ranked in top 10 somewhere is accurate and who is ahead of who is really irrelevant at this point in the season.
