State Basketball in Springfield

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now, I just need Glendale to actually GET THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I personally don't like it. Thoughts from all of you?

MSHSAA announced a new state basketball championship venue. It awarded a five-year contract starting in the 2017-18 school year to JQH Arena on the campus of Missouri State. Next school year will be the last at Mizzou Arena. The move to Springfield means the state basketball championships will not be held in Columbia for the first time since 1991 when they were held at Hammons Student Center in Springfield.

I suspected this was coming...
I've enjoyed attending and hosting the games in Columbia for many years.
Looks like next year will be my last...
I'm beginning to dislike the SEC more n more...oo

Ahh c'mon DF Springfield ain't so far away, just jump a Pony and head on down. Heck it's quite a bit closer for semo area folks, but will still be quite expensive to attend I'm sure. Will they go back a two day tourney or play in another arena there also?

3R........Yer probably right... What else ya gonna do in mid March..!? C =}~

The JQH Arena was awarded the MSHSAA Show-Me Showdown beginning with the 2017-18 school year. The contract will consist of a five-year agreement, which also uses the Hammons Student Center for the Thursday of Class 1, 2 and 3 weekend.

"We are very excited about using a venue for our basketball championships for which we have received many positive comments," said MSHSAA Executive Director Dr. Kerwin Urhahn. "We appreciate the work that the cities put into this bid process and we have taken this process very seriously. We are especially humbled by the amount of community support the city of Springfield showed in putting together its bids. We have an obligation to our membership to find not only the best facilities to host our championships, but also the best support from the host site to serve our schools needs."

They re-finished the court at Hammons Student Center this past fall. It wasn't an old floor anyway. The original wood floor at HSC is now in the $1 million Turner Practice facility (North court). So, if you wan't to hoop where Tyler Hansbrough, Jackie Stiles, and Alonso Mourning did, go to the practice court.

They finally added a ribbon board to JQH this fall as well.

The renovated Glass Hall should be done by March of 2018 too, which will improve the campus look quite a bit (more modern looking).

Looks like next year might be my last year attending. Springfield too far away for this old North Mo. Fan.

not an SEC fan, either.. but not sure they had much to do with this, unless I am missing something. Columbia bid on it again,

I assume the rumors about the SEC deal were not true. I find it hard to believe they could tell their member schools they have to pass on a LOT of money by not having other events in their own arenas. I for one have no problem with it moving to Springfield, I like that place much better than Columbia.

I just hope for a few things......
1) It does not take an hour and a half to get through town, park and into the arena!
2) If you can not make the long drive from the north, you can at least watch it for free on Foxsports again!

I don't know why #1 would be an issue. I've been to several events, games, graduations, concerts, etc at the Q and have never had a big issue. To me it's much easier to get a round than in Columbia.

I wouldn't expect anything to be free TV again.

I hope the schedules will lineup for at least one final four weekend to occur at the same time MSU is having its spring break. That'll help out parking a great deal.

One advantage of having the final four in Columbia is that it is a central location.

Dogfather - what did the SEC have to do with this decision? Did they tell Mizzou they couldn't host, or what?
