So, highly unlikely it happens, but there are rumblings. Was reading that the Cards are willing to give up one of their top young pitchers in a deal for Stanton. They didn't elaborate on which one but I say if the Marlins are willing to eat around 115-125 million of that contract, it would be hard not to give up whichever one they chose except maybe Weaver... Thoughts?

I'd say Weaver and Reyes are the only ones they would consider in such a deal. I wasn't impressed with the others that came up. Maybe we'll see if Reyes is still untouchable.

They can have them both along with Grichuk and Piscotty.

I don't think the Marlins would be willing to eat more than 30 to 50 million and would probably be Martinez or Reyes, Alcantra, Grichuk, and at least 1 more high prospect.

difficult to see them eating that much. It would have to be a crazy deal.

Stanton has what is effectively a 10 year, 295 M deal right now with an opt out after 2020. Which is reasonably close to fair market value. The cards would probably have to give up a boatload to get them to eat even 50 M of that.

Tough to trade Reyes if you think he’s healthy. May not get fair value.

Give up Reyes or Weaver and eat 95% of that contract, you're at a starting point. They are dumping salary.... not eating it

Which they have said they would prefer to dump his money rather than maximize a huge return

But it is still going to cost a bit in prospects
