Third-seeded St. Vincent, a small private Catholic school in Perryville, made history tonight.
The Lady Indians ended No. 2 seeded Leopold's 10-year district reign with a 25-19, 25-23 upset in the semifinals match of the Class 1 District 4 Tournament at Advance High School.
Leopold has won its district for the past ten consecutive seasons, beginning during the 2002-2003 season when the Lady Wildcats last won its Class 1 state title. The two teams first met in pool play during the Dig for Life Volleyball Challenge and equally split with each other in pool play 25-23, 25-23.
The Lady Wildcats pulled out a narrow home victory over St. Vincent a week ago 26-24, 25-19 on the Leopold home court.
This will be the first time in over 10 years that Leopold has not made a debut in the Class 1 sectionals in the Southeast Missouri area.
The Wildcats end the season with a record of 24-5-1.
Top-seeded and host Advance will face St. Vincent tomorrow night at 6 p.m. for the championship match.
Get there early.
