Recruiting high school basketball talent in Missouri will be difficult for Cuonzo Martin because of out of state coaches already pulling talent out Missouri's two largest cities.

1. Bruce Weber--Kansas State works St. Louis hard.

2. Travis Ford---St. Louis University appears to be in on the action for St. Louis talent--signing Carter'are Gordon.

3. Bill Self-------Kansas---owns Kansas City--Cuonzo can not out-recruit Bill Self for the Kansas City talent.

4. Brad Underwood---Illinois---Will be difficult to recruit against for the St. Louis area talent.

5. Mike Anderson--Arkansas---Missouri will have a difficult time in Arkansas because of Mike Anderson.

6. Shaka Smart--Texas---Texas will be difficult for Missouri to recruit top talent---Texas has lot's of big time talent but have many top sports minded Universities.

7. Gregg Marshall--Wichita State----The Kock brothers are paying Gregg Marshall's salary. I'm guessing the Kocks would help out in recruiting if money would help out and they have plenty of that ( 80 Billion dollars ) Wichita State just signed the top player out of Memphis for next year thanks to Penny Hardaway. The Kock brothers may own Penny Hardaway!

8. Mark Few----Gonzaga------Mike Few owns Canada. Recruiting Canada will be difficult for Mid-America teams like Missouri. There are players in Canada.

Cuonzo Martin may be able to pull needed talent from the above states but the better talent will be difficult Missouri. Any coach can give out 12 basketball scholarships but getting players who can vault Missouri into a consistence top 25 basketball program may prove difficult but possible.

Not sure where your anti Cuonzo rant came from, (where in the world did recruiting Canada come from?) but he has a strong track record of being able to recruit. I'm confident he'll find the players needed to have a very successful program.

He signed the top two players out of MoKan within months of being on the top. He signed the top available guy in STL within months of being on the job.

We've already been over this endless times. KA didn't sign a single player out of the two most prominent AAU programs in the state, MoKan and Brad Beal Elite. And he wasn't going to in the future. Ever.

It's been a decade since MU signed a meaningful recruit out of St. Louis, or longer, and Martin did that right away.

Of the four most recent coaches MU has had, old timers come out of the woodwork to defend one of them, and castigate the other three. Ever wonder why that is?

Kim Anderson makes Paul Lusk look like Coach K.

Kassius Robertson is on the Missouri roster and from Toronto, Ontario. There are player in Toronto but Mark Few in Toronto is like Penny Hardaway in Memphis. Missouri was all in on Alex Lomax ( Memphis East ) but Penny Hardaway said, no.

Cuonzo got Porter and the rest of the recruits came because of him. Next years class will be huge on how Cuonzo will do in the future. If he takes advantage of his recruiting momentum he will be here for a while. In St. Louis/Missouri there is usually 4 or 5 division one players each year. He needs a couple each year and to get the biggest one at least a third of the time.

Think of the past five years or so. Think where this program would be if we got Beal or Tatum? If we got one of them that could of changed the program for many years. Cuonzo got the number one this year and even if he doesn't play this year he could be the biggest recruit in a long time as he is the reason we got 3 or 4 recruits already.

Getting the Whitfield kid for next year is a good start. If we could pick up Ramey now that he is open I think we could be looking pretty good next year.

No kidding.

Yes, Cuonzo needs to make inroads somewhere, but shouldn't we judge the guy by what he actually does? He brought in a lot of talent in year one, he already has one of the best guys in STL as a commit for next year, and they're not out on Ramey. Judging him fairly...in the 7-8 months or whatever that he's been the Mizzou coach, he's recruited at a pretty decent clip.

Fair point

I'd say it's even a fair bit higher than that.
