My favorite McRae moment was the post-game press conference as manager… wished they hadn’t fired him, as they did nothing under Bob Boone.
I had to look it up to be sure what year, as I’m at the age they run together. The article I found said 1993.
I remember the Royals, with McRae as manager, played very well first 4 months of 91 then caved.
Yes, it seemed like all of the post-Howser guys couldn’t get it done, until Yost. But it was hard when the team kept trading your stars to contenders on an annual basis it seemed. Of course that seemed to happen more after the strike.
That is so true... The outfield they had consisting of Carlos Beltran, Johnny Damon, and Jermaine Dye was the best young outfield in baseball at the time. I remember that the Royals felt that they couldn't afford to sign Beltran and eventually all three were gone for essentially nothing.
