How many regular folks do you think can even get qualified to make any trip in space, much less ride along for YEARS to get some where.

This is the long game and I don't expect us to need to travel to other planets out of need even in my Grand Children's life time. But we will need it at some point and we cannot stagnate on moving forward with that technology. We need to develop it on our own terms as opposed to developing it because we MUST.

At this point as I stated in another thread we have 10% of the population living in poverty and as I am fond of pointing out most of that can be contributed to the character defects of those individuals as opposed to the system. So this is a perfect time to fund this type of exploration...as opposed to a time when it might be necessary to reallocate scarce resources from all to save the human race.

First we must develop technology to get to the asteroid belt...some estimate that the resources there are vast and expansive.

According to NASA you have to pass a physical similar to a Military physical must have good eyesight that can be corrected...BP not above 140/90. Among other skills....but the Average Non-Astronaut wouldn't need all those qualifications.

Agree. We are moving too fast with space travel with the technology and knowledge that we have at the moment. I like the idea of the International Space Station to learn more about the obstacles. The next logical step would be a Space Station on the Moon. But in the future, let's slow down and stop throwing money away right now.

Weightlessness is a major physical obstacle. Blood pools in the body's core, muscles atrophy, loss of body mass, etc. Keep in mind the astronauts on the International Space Station, while appear to be free floating, are actually still in earth's gravitational pull. ISS astronauts are just staying in space for a little over a year right now, I think, and they come back with weakened muscles.

We will have to develop the technology to manufacture gravity on a spaceship for long term space travel.

I still can't my Trumper friends who are still adamant in believing he was a great president. I truly baffles me!! And he would have won easily if he didn't totally screw the pooch on covid.
