Just wondering. Because they cancelled their JV game on Monday vs. Excelsoir for COVID...

I believe Odessa doesn't have ton of players out Coach Thomas is known for having a small group of really dedicated players as opposed to a huge team
I AM smelling something here...

Over 40 players on that roster. He likes playing people two ways...come on man? Sumptin up.,

You really think Coach Thomas would take a loss to rest starters for some kind of grand scheme? That's funny. They have low numbers. Injuries. A lot of kids playing both ways and can't afford to lose anyone else in a JV game with Districts starting next week.

NICE TRY...as Bosko would say. But next week is Harrisonville. Then a bye week. Then the playoffs start. So THREE WEEKS until playoffs--and an easy first game. NOT BUYING IT.

Thank you for quoting me, Joey. That is an acceptable use of my phrase. Now having said that, does everyone REALLY believe the Bulldogs are just low in numbers? Ive never been to Odessa but a quick Google search shows the population was 5,300 in 2010.

Are you really telling me a town of that size is low in numbers? Even Ampipe doesnt have that problem. NICE TRY!!

Didn't say he wasn't a good coach. Clearly he is... but have also heard from people that he tends to be abrasive and can run some off or make some not want to play for him. His approach has obviously worked well in Kearney & Odessa.
He also won a state title at Boonville. So three different schools he won state titles.

Ya not a lot of kids play on the team from what I understand

Why not though? These Bulldogs have played in 2 state championships, winning one, and should have won back to back state titles. Why wouldnt more kids wanna play on a quality team?
I think an Odessa guy with first hand knowledge of what is going on should answer. I could speculate but I am not immediately familiar week to week on the behind the scenes happenings of what is going on there.

COVID ended their epic run last year as it also did for St. Mary's in Class 3. Would it have changed the outcome of the title. I won't say that it would but it would have made Class 3 a little bit more difficult. Blair Oaks was very good last year even with a Sophmore QB putting up video game numbers even in the state title game.

When you have low numbers on the team (around 40) and quite a few of them are freshman and Sophmores (23) as well as many going both ways, it wouldn't take much from losing a few key players to having a team that doesn't look like the juggernaught that the rest of the state sees them as.

For being "abrasive"!? Sounds like Coach Nickerson needs to come out of retirement and start swinging his nine iron around in Odessa!!
A lot of programs let their hot moms call all the shots...thus you get the sissy factor. Snowflakes and sissies do nothing but hurt programs and run off good coaches like Thomas or Nickerson. When you have a Commitment to Excellence, it is always better to be feared than respected.

Hot moms should not be calling the shots for a program. Look at what happened to Kearney!!

They're likely gonna get either Oak Grove or Pleasant Hill. NO district game will be easy for Odessa.

No cut on him just my understanding it didn't work out at all in Belton (larger school).

They would leapfrog Center today due to head to head 41-40 win. IF they lose this week, though, SCA looks like first opponent. Southeast, by the way, dropped FB for 2021 after week 2 so this is a FIVE team district.
