Smithville 34, Kearney 0 mid 3rd

Now the big question is how do they adjust playing the exact same opponent at the same exact place just seven days later? I told everyone back in the summer watch out for these Miller twins especially #1 Isaac. What I saw vs. early in the season is Smithville has really upped their game and prepped well for what will likely be another deeep run in C4. Hate to say it but have a feeling this Friday will be deja vu all over again.

Deep run? Not seeing it. If only because the District 1,2, 7, 8 side of the bracket is abysmal.

Agreed, unfortunately I expect this Friday to look like quarters 5-8 of last Friday's game, but I don't see that Smithville team making a run. I'd like to think that K-town comes out pissed off after Smithville tried (and failed) to run up the score in the 4q - Kearney should be the ones with a chip on their shoulder and adjustments to make.

IMO, Smithville is too one dimensional and a good team will shut down that running game. Hopefully Kearney comes out & stacks the box on Friday, but I haven't seen that kind of adjustment.

In all fairness I think Smithville knew Lincoln Prep was going to win and was trying to leapfrog the Blue Tigers................BUT I noticed (and pointed it out to the dismay of a few on YouTube chat) that as well. Being at a distance from the program I just flat have to admit I have no idea what to expect from this group week to week. The one and only game I felt they played with that chip on the shoulder of which you speak was WINNETONKA. That is not a bad team at all and KTown never gave them a chance.

That is why. Were these teams on the other side it would be over in the District playoffs for sure. The fact is somebody is going to rep 1-2-7-8 so who is it going to be? Platte County seems to be in a huge funk...............that was my team just one month ago.

I would argue that adding Grain Valley & Smithville watered down the schedule - aside from Staley (and this Staley team obviously isn't close to the '17 Staley edition), this was the weakest schedule I've seen in the last decade. 2017 had Liberty North, Fort Osage & Raytown (Gicento was amazing); Smithville was good last year, but neither Grain Valley nor Smithville are as strong as those C5 programs that were taken off the schedule.

I'm not sure what confidence builders you're referring to - non-cons in not-to-distant past have included the likes of both Liberty schools, Park Hill, Lee's Summit. Clearly this team wasn't up for Staley (although the score was close for 3 quarters) - outside of that program, the dogs really shouldn't be getting clocked by any school on this schedule.
2014 and 2015 schedule cycle:

SJC 3-7, 4-7 (confidence builder)
Liberty 3-8, 3-7 (confidence builder)
LN 8-4, 8-3 (tough games)
Raytown South 6-4, 4-6 (confidence builder)
Ruskin 1-9, 0-10 (confidence builder)
Tonka 7-3, 1-9 (tough game and confidence builder)
Platte 9-2, 7-3 (tough game)
Belton 4-7, 8-3 (confidence builder and tough game)
Grandview 1-9, 6-4 (confidence builder)

Three tough games a year was par for the course under the old coach for a decade: Take away Ruskin and St Joe. Add Smithville and Grain Valley. Things got harder for the new one.

If I remember right around that time Ray south had some dangerous squads under David Allie and were anything but a confidence builder. They have dropped off since he left weakening the schedule a bit

In 2014..Grain Valley and Smithville would have been cupcakes to Kearney.

No doubt both have improved the last few years
Both schools it is about coaching. I like what Ambroson and staff are doing at Smithville. Pregame warmups are very organized and efficient and prep the kids very well for the game(s) in my opinion. Allie at GV needs no intro. Big question for them is will they finally navigate District 7 and emerge into the quarters?

Scheduling up in class isn't building in "confidence builders", and you don't know a teams season ending record when you fill out the schedule. Also, you play who is in your conference - it's the non-cons that you have control of (so no point in calling them "confidence builders".) Smithville & Grain Valley are in conference now, so K-town plays them.

The quality of the dogs play has come down - the quality of opposition has not increased.

Lot of pontificating on here when all you need to type is “Kearney Sucks”

I don't know who schedules what. I do know Kearney's schedule is tougher week to week this year than it was in a decade or so long run ending in 2015. This is a fact. Schedules matter. Talent matters too. They are not gifted this year compared to prior years. It's not the coach.
