Smithville 20 - 0 Center

No need to bring race into this, JN. Center was clearly faster, which allowed them to stay in the game with a Smithville team that executes very well and is very balanced. Good luck to the Warriors.
Repeating a false narrative won't make it any more true.

Don't think Smithville executes well?
What will they have to do to hang in the game with St. Mary's?
Smithville executes better than anyone in the state. To hang with St. Mary's they will need turnovers.
And no, Center is not the fastest team they have seen this year...that would be Kearney, who beat Smithville this year.

Across the board Center was objectively faster. Kearney may have a few kids that are faster than Center's fastest kid, but as a collective whole (position by position) Center was faster.

I'll remind you (not that it will matter) this is a football board not a track board.

And one Jacorey Love is back next year. Likely the #1 back in the entire KC metro in 2023.........

Your first point, about the teams still playing, is probably true.
Your second point is debatable. I think I disagree with it. Not really all that important, though, one way or the other. The answer to that is not what will decide the state semifinal matchup this week!

Game situation dictates how agressive Smithville's offense is. Their passing game can absolutely be a weapon when they need it to be.

Yeah, but against a good team... Like Kearney this year... Smithville QB rating 68, 41% completion. 100.5 yards per game. 2TDs 1 INT.
Gonna need to go downhill vs. St. Mary's and successfully--on the ground. Their backfield likely faster than K.

Just watched the St. Mary's-DeSmet highlights again: More about pure athleticism than speed. #20 is a very, very punishing RB just like that very big O Line. That back and unit are far the best Smithville has seen this year. Very comparable to CBC.

Any yet, they score zero on Smithville. Kearney puts up 21? K hold Smithville to 19... And Center? Okay...so objectively WTF are you talking about? And yes, bring in the track board, and empirically, they are faster..
Kearney smoked Fort. Next thing you are going to tell me is, Fort is faster too? LOL... In early June, K will win another state championship in track with sprinters. LOL

If you watch the game, I don't know how you come to the conclusion that Center was faster? Did you see Center's QB get sacked 5 times and chased down from behind? What was Center's longest play, 14 yards? It would seem that if Center had so much more speed they would have had bigger plays than that? I don't know why people keep talking about this, the proof is in the result.

Thank you. Now Smithville needs the strip!!!! They need to be physical. And execute. That St. Mary's speed to scare me though. That is real speed.

Speed does not necessarily mean more points but go ahead and talk about what you want. YAY TRACK! FOOTBALL BORING CAUSE BULLDAWG BAD!

Again, I will reiterate that position by position across the entire team, not just a few offensive players, Center was faster

My original comment was that Center had more speed than anybody Smithville had yet played. I'll stick by that. Not saying they were better than the Warriors in any sense, which they clearly were not.

Amazing how they got zero points then... and old slower Kearney scored multiple times. LOL

This makes me feel like you don't understand how football works. Just because they were faster does not make them better than Kearney or more likely to score more points. It's just speed. I will admit that speed usually is helpful but it does not dictate how a game will progress.

Also straight line speed when you are only focused on running and running with pads on while others are actively trying to stop you is slightly different.

Stop. This discussion has already happened, with similar results.

It's like playing chess with a pigeon: No matter how great of a chess player you are, the pigeon is going to crap on the board, knock over all the pieces, and strut around like it just won.

I know but I enjoy Joey's logic

I am not the one claiming that Center is "faster" Someone else did. I am simply calling bullshit.

I hope Smithville beats St. Mary's. And now that I have all these lessons about speeed...it all sounds more possible. I mean, football speed vs. real speed. Like St. Mary's has two guys that run 10.7, to 10.8 100meters that will be getting touches all game. Well, from what you guys are saying it won't matter...that's just track speed. Well, Smithville should win by 21 then.

I am so glad to know that Kiante Hardin wasn't as football fast as he was track fast, when he torched everyone for TDs...it was just an illusion. I mean, he ran a 10.67 100 meters, but that diddn't mean anything.

I tihink one thing that might be overlooked is the lineman for Smithville, Jayce Ferrell. Kid is a beast. Making plays. Does St. Mary's have anyone that can stop him?
I think Smithville will win the battle in the trenches. Which is another reason why I think this game will be close.

Believe it or not, Heston Miller of WP ran faster than that on more than one occasion last year as a junior.

Well, Smithville's D-ends chased down Center's QB for 5 sacks on the day. Center had 1 sack on the day and Smithville's QB escaped the pocket several times to convert on big 3rd downs. I still don't know what you are referring to, but you need to watch the film. There isn't a single play bounced to the outside where Center's RB isn't tackled for a loss or short gain. Sometimes people make assumptions about teams just because of their makeup. I think you need to reevaluate this one. In the end, it really doesn't matter besides to score. 20 to 0 says it all!

The biggest threat that St. Mary's has is that not only are their RBs athletic (not going to use the term "speed" anymore), but they are also big. Jamal Roberts comes in around 205lbs where Smithville's LBs are quick to the ball, but are 20lbs lighter. They will need to stop him early before he gets momentum going downhill. No one has stopped St. Mary's offense this year. There will be no shutout this time around. Smithville will need to control the time of possession and frustrate them. Smithville is the only class 4 team in the state that has a chance at beating St. Mary's. This game will determine the state champion.

Saw this one in person. No need for film study. Smithville contained and tackled well.

Just my opinion, but by all means feel free to be wrong whenever you feel like it.

St. Mary's RB is very physical just like the ND bound Love I saw for CBC last Saturday. Again key is not letting these guys wear you down then start bouncing outside going to the house. That 3rd quarter at Liberty North is bar none the best overall one by any team I've seen all year.

I think I have heard of nightmares screaming across the northland of that fateful 3rd quarter. CBC is a monster year in and year out. I would be greatly surprised if Lee's Summit North has any way of slowing down such a powerful offense. This could be a barn burner in class 6, but my guess is a lopsided CBC win.

Given how LN had shut everyone else down this year it sure was a stunner. I am NOT trying to down anyone but I like LSN's QB better this year PLUS I think the Broncos O Line is much better at this stage of the season. CBC absolutely is the favorite here but I still contend it could be a good, close one heading into the final quarter and perhaps to the wire.

Great memories of a game far closer than the final score. You all had an outstanding team that year!
It was a great game! We just didn’t make the plays we needed to against an unbelievably good defense and machine of an offense. I never did watch that game film…I wouldn’t be able to stand getting stuffed on the goalline on the opening drive or giving up that score before half.

You guys should have gone back to back in 08 and 09. You were better than both Helias and Webb.

On another note, Solomon Watkins was just inducted into the Smith-Cotton hall of fame last night.

FANTASTIC. He was a very special player!

Well is Kearney still playing? No one really remembers what happens in regular season. Let me guess, lets talk about how good Kearney will be next year.

Good enough to turbo clock the final three teams in the Quarters, Semis and finals you dumb MFr. LOL
