Does anyone know if there has been any discussion or interest in holding the championship games somewhere other than STL every year? The dome is a fine venue, but STL isn't really central to the state in terms of geography, governance, population, anything really. The geography of the larger stadiums in the state works out really well to allow each region to host the event - rotating between STL, Arrowhead in KC/West, Faurot for North/Central MO and Plaster in Springfield for the southern part of the state. All of those venues are nice and could accommodate the event and so could the respective cities.

I get that the dome protects against cold and rain, but all these teams have been playing outside every week up until that game anyways. Does anyone know why it's always held in STL? Is it solely because of the indoor capability? Or are there other factors and/or politics at work there? Does anyone even have an interest in utilizing other facilities and regions in the state? I know it's been held at MU and what was SMSU in years past but my understanding is that when the dome was built they have had it there every year since. As much as I generally dislike going to STL, I will give them the advantage that it's nice to be able to stay within walking distance of the game. The same could not be said about any of the other 3 venues.

Just curious.

I'll say this. I like that they have it all in one place as opposed to KS that has their championships spread throughout the start.
I also like the fact the dome makes it much easier as a fan to sit through six games. The only problem is I'm not going to drive to St. Louis to watch football. I'd drive from the west side to Columbia though.
Also has anyone else heard they aren't putting the games on TV this year, it's only PPV?

I think the fact that its indoors is a huge plus. It makes it an event that people will stay and watch multiple games. If the weather was nice an outdoor venue would probably get about the same draw but if it was cold and nasty out it could be pretty sparse

First off depending on what happens with the Rams this offseason MSHSAA might be forced to look at other venues.
If they do I would think they try to keep them all together or in two venues. MSHSAA barley has enough personnel to work games in one venue.

Kids think it's a big deal playing there. thats about all that matters.

As soon as the Rams leave town I doubt it's going to be the football venue anyway

Sec will not allow Mizzou to have championship games. Although I saw some film of high school championships at Ole Miss last year so not sure. Inside is ideal because people will watch all 3 games each day.

I also like having them all in the same place. Getting all the teams and fans together in one area adds to the excitement and it's also fun to catch some of the other games. It would be substantially less fun to do it Kansas style where you and one other team meet somewhere like MSSU.

Though in the few times I have been I haven't noticed a lot of fans watching games other than their own, aside from maybe the end of the previous game and some of the next game. Though I am sure there are some people that do it. It sounds like fun, but when we get there we usually end up deciding we'd rather go eat or do something else besides watch another game between two teams we don't know.

Why would the SEC care if Mizzou hosted state championship? I am not disagreeing, I just don't see why their conference affiliation would have any say or interest in the universities use of their own facilities.

Counting 8 man it's actually a bit more but who's counting...

IMO however the overall experience in St. Louis is great for someone who follows all the classes on the west side of the state.

Granted that not everyone is as silly as I am and goes each year sense 2000 just for fun.

Go eat? You know they do have concessions available that would allow you to do both? jk :)

I went for the first time in 1982 and had to watch the Green Machine from Mt Vernon get crushed at Arrowhead (A little chilly that day). Went to Busch in 1983 to watch the same team beat Seneca. However, the bright side was getting to see Joplin Parkwood get a championship that year. I made several sporadic returns but I have made a habit of attending all six classes since 2010. At 11 bucks a day, it is a great entertainment value for one that enjoys MO HS FB! The Good Lord willing, this is a habit I intend not to break anytime soon.

Was just thinking about this a few mins ago. Probably have seen you and other Webb fans for years at the dome and didn't even no it !

I always stay in the hotel directly next to the Edwards Jones Dome.

There was one night that I believe Auburn,"could be wrong about that" ...
came back and won a game on a kick off return, it was tremendous !!!

We were in the hotel's dinning area I think on the 4th floor watching TV.

"All" of the fans in the room cheered out loud and were united in glory for that one moment.
It was one thing that separates sports from any other activity as truly special .

Not sure about the year but I too was at Arrowhead watching Lathrop play Richmond in the 80's.

Correction... Lexington Missouri
Small World.... : )

Drury Inn & Suites Convention Center. That is where I stay too. Had my two rooms booked since last year. I have had other hotels recommended as I am sure there are others that are nicer but the Drury seems to work well for me. Since it is right there, the family can come and go as they like, the price of a hot breakfast and 5 o'clock kickback is included as well as parking and wifi. With last year's unrest in StL and some folks deciding to stay home, I was fairly well at ease knowing all I would have to do is walk across the street. Of course as we know now, that was much to do about nothing in that part of town. It has become tradition to catch up with the beatwriter, rhino, webbpa and pilot briefly at some point during the weekend. And you are right, we've probably seen each other several times. If you get the notion to say hi and shake a hand, I would certainly be glad to.

Absolutely!

If you were watching Lathrop play in a state title game, you weren't watching football.

Keep all the games at the dome. People that stay for all 7 games don't want to sit outside for back to back 10 hour days. You can stay in the Drurey right across the street. There is no better set up in the state.
