Should STL look to make a trade or sit tight?

Obviously we can struggle offensively and still compete for the division title.
Can we win a playoff series with Waino and Lynn as the 1-2 punch?

Would you trade for a bat or an arm?

With Wong heating up, I'd be ok sitting still on offense. Maybe a RH bat for the bench. About the only upgrade I'd be very happy with is Beltre, and not even sure he's really available. And not sure the asking price would be worth the return.

I'd kick the tires on Peavy for sure. His numbers aren't quite as bad as his record would indicate. Health scares me with him. As long as he wouldn't cost you a current member of the roation, or Oscar or Wong, I'd say give it a shot. Giving up a Piscotty or Gruchuk seems not that bad. Have read where the Red Sox want a member of the rotation though. If that's true, we need to get one of their IF'ers in return.

Can we trade for a manager more willing to let the youngsters play a bit? Would it be too much to ask for OT to play five of six games for a stretch? Or let CMart pitch his way out of jams? Maness and Motte can give up rope after rope, and seem to have all the leash they want. AC can hit 175' cans of corn and roll over to 3B all day long, and seemingly get penciled in the next day. I swear, I'm surprised he's not still running Ellis out to 2B.

Not sold on Oscar as he has had more bad ABs than good but sample size is still small. They have too many OFs and if you want to get a good player you have to give something up. This is where I trust MO. He is pretty shrewd at this time of the year I think we need to get a front line pitcher, because I get the feeling Wacha might be done for the year!

Waino and Price vs Kershaw and Greinke sounds like a nice NLCS showdown. Just sayin.

That's just not true. His average may very well be at the Mendoza line, but his ABs certainly haven't been more bad than good.

I thought getting hits/doubles/HR's was the idea when you bat. The other night he got an RBI but he did it by grounding to 2nd on an 2-0 pitch when the pitcher was struggling to throw strikes. If ground balls on the infield are good at bats for OT they have to be good for Craig and Holliday too.

I have seen just about every AB he has taken and we will have to agree to disagree Eagles. I have not seen anything that backs up your statement.!

One AB out of 70+ doesn't make a point. It merely shows 1.5% of his ABs.

Do you think he's overmatched?

Yes I do. To me he swings at too many breaking pitches out of the zone and takes too many fast ball strikes. I do feel he will get better, but he hasn't looked that good to me. I don't think hitting ,200 happens by hitting into bad luck even if your sample size is 70 ABs

I don't really think he's overmatched. Unfortunately the guy has been hyped as the next coming so we expected him to come in with guns blazing. I hope the slow start is nothing more than nerves and pressure. Some guys handle it better. I still think he'll be a productive guy eventually.

The Cards need another Berkman or Will Clark type. Even Beltran to a certain extent last year. A veteran who likes to lead who can take the pressure off others, especially the younger guys. That's what they're missing, in my opinion. Holliday and AC just don't come off as that type to me. Could be wrong but I don't see it. Heck, OT is trying to take AC's job. Do you think that might be causing any added nerves and friction? I don't know but I can see where it might.

76 ABs with 15 hits for a .196 BA and 14Ks for a 18% strikeout rate makes me think he is having more bad ABs than good. I admit this is a very small sample size but he has not been very productive in the bigs to this point. That's all I'm saying!

Eagle that is NOT the only infield out he's made, I was trying to give him credit for an RBI even if he did swing on 2-0 with a struggling pitcher out there. He is late on nearly every high octane fastball he swings at. My point was I hear lots of complaints about Craig and Holliday hitting too many ground balls, so has OT has had several in his 70+ AB's. I hope he becomes the next big thang but he ain't there yet and he's not a great defensive guy either so he better hit.
