How did the Marksmen do in their district tournament? Any state qualifiers?

From what I have read, Coach Gurney has done an outstanding job there.

Sherwood did get 3 through.......119 4th......130 1st.......152 2nd......

I dunno about outstanding, but he has done as good a job as the administration has allowed him to do. They haven't been the best help for him or whoever was there in the last 3 to 4 years.

Administration not supporting the program? They have only had wrestling two or three years haven't they?

They had a chance to pick up a kid who had bundles of experience to help two years ago. Principle said that he would get back to him and he never did hear back. The Harrisonville coach was a solid reference for him, and nothing came out of it. So they have had it at least 3years now. But not sure if it's the same coach

Sherwood has had the same coach since the program started. This is their fourth year. As far as I know, the administration has been very supportive of the program. Who are you talking about from Harrisonville? A coach? A wrestler? They already have two coaches there. Maybe they weren't looking to hire any more.

I know for a fact that it was a social studies opening with coaching possibilities. The Principal was to get back with the guy in a day after going to the board. The principal never called back either way. This is a well known fact on that one.

Well, that is a shame then. Was that the high school or middle school principal? Who is the individual that applied?

Sherwood brought home two medals. James Walker got 4th at 152 and Nevin Kopriva got 2nd at 130. That's great for the program, as both will be back next year.

I did keep a watch on the Sherwood's wrestlers. They did very well, and surprised many people. Were either of the kids move ins, or have they been there for awhile. I do know the time of which flex bone talks about.
It was a social studies position with coaching. Possible wrestling. High School Principal. The applicant was upset, because the principal said those glorious words. No matter what I will call you tomorrow or the next day. And the kids dad said that the kid never heard from them again.

that being aside, Sherwood wrestlers had a great tournament

Hopefully that individual will apply again sometime. It's always good to have quality people in the room helping the kids. I know Sherwood has come a long way in just four years, but there is still a lot of work to do to reach the level of some of the elite teams, like Oak Grove, etc.

Well what happened in the past is just that. Things I do not believe were always done correctly in the past at Sherwood. There is a though new principal in the High School and a New Super as of last year. There is a lot of support for athletics as a whole at Sherwood as seen by a winning season in Football, winning middle school sports; Football Undefeated, Boys Basketball 1 loss and good showings by girls Volleyball and Basketball. As i understand it in the past there was not full support for Sherwood sports, example is starting wrestling 1 year after the Hunters left after refusing the Hunter family's repeated attempts to start a wrestling program. Also as well Sherwood started middle school wrestling this year so things are looking up for the Marksmen.

I agree with you 74. SHS athletics has made a turn for the better recently. Football coach came in a did a great job. The one thing I do wish is that the BB coach quit patting himself on the back about the basketball program.
I get a kick reading "his" articles he writes himself and quoting himself. You would think the basketball program has never been successful according to him. It has always been a basketball school and has some great teams in the past. By reading his articles, you would think the school had never played a basketball game in the history of the school. He also keeps reinterating that SHS has never won a conference championship in any sport. He says this every season when he believes he might have a chance of winning it. I believe boys track won numerous conference championships in the 90's.

Anyway, keep up the good work Marksmen.

Sticks.....Don't forget the Marksmen won the Show-Me West wrestling championship this year. This is the first conference title in any sport since I believe 1998 or 99. You are correct about the track championships. As far as basketball goes........no comment. :)

Hey tackle74......Happy Birthday! Is this the big 4 - 0?

Yes, how can I not mention the conference championship in wrestling. Congrats to Coach Gurney and the wrestling team for a fine season.

No comment about basketball huh? I guess I am not alone on that issue.
That guy cracks me up.
