Sell sell sell.

Never mind. Dont sell. The Dodgers are something like 73-31, yet "Dan the man" McLaughlin says our rookie crop from Memphis is "the talk of baseball". Wow.

If the Cubs would just play .500 ball the rest of the way the Cardinals would have to play 10 or 12 over to catch them. Pretty hard to see that happening the way this season has gone up to now and i doubt of the Cubs only win half their games the rest of the season.

Unload some outfielders. Get a defensive SS.
Anybody notice that the Cubs and just about everybody who has a chance to make the playoffs have been making moves to improve their squad for the stretch run. Oh wait not the Birds!!!!! I predict the Birds will make a move to get a so so reliever and say they just missed out on a couple of big deals. Meanwhile we will get to watch a different #3 hitter and Gyrko at #4 and Yadi at #5 while he cries about 1 day off the rest of this year and probably next. If we made the move the Cubs did, people wouldn't be too fired up about it. Wilson is a good reliever, but not something that sets the team up long term. Avila is going to be their backup catcher.

And Avila will probably hit a clutch homerun while the Cardinals are at home watching the playoffs.

The Cubs have a 70%+ chance of making the postseason and a roster good enough to win it all. Marginal improvements have a lot of value to them.

I'm not terribly interested in this team trading prospects for 30+ backups. We aren't good enough or close enough to a wild card spot to justify it.

I'd rather they make a trade that also improved the club for 2018.

Does Quintana not count. Cubs 3 moves to improve their weak spots. Cards no moves in 2 years to improve the middle of their order. Come on man, you can't continue to run out a guy that they traded to be their utility infielder to the #4 spot, still have no fixed #3 and Yadi #5. All I'm saying this has been a need for 2 years now and nothing and it looks like nothing will be done now. Also I bet they do nothing this off season to address the problem because they over value their young players and refuse to spend the money. Oh yeah and I will bet you that they will come close but just couldn't pull the trigger on a big name because the other team just made an offer for said player that just didn't quite work with their algorythyms. UHGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG. I don't want to hear that they spent money on Fowler and Cecil!! Yes they spent money on these guys, but not big money. They have over valued Grichuk, Wong, Piscotti, and spent money on guys like Yadi, Fowler and Cecil. The last good move MO made was Gyorko and he is a #5 or 6 hitter at best which will probably come to fruition before the season ends.

One more thing. If the Birds make any move at all which I doubt they will. It will be exactly this kind of move and no people wont be that fired up about it because it won't address the most important need they have. Again you failed to mention Quintanna

I couldnt say it any better than that VB.

Get a hitter to build your team around.
Get a defensive shortstop.
Do those things and our bullpen issue wont be so critical because we will be in much better position to win.

Detroit was in a selling mood

Iglesias plays a little defense, I hear

Quintana type move for a position player makes sense given the years of team control.

This team has payroll flexibility. No question about it.

I was focused on today's move, I agree with the idea of an equivalent to Quintana, although it has to be the right person at the right position with a multi year contract. I'm not sure what was out there at the positions that make the most sense for us in that way. It's tough to see that from the outside. Quintana wasn't a great fit for us overall - we have a decent amount of cost controlled pitching to where you don't need to give up the prospects to get that. JD Martinez was just a rental.

bullpen is also a lot easier to fix from year to year.

I get it. Just very frustrating watching this team stand pat after they gave Adams away for nothing and he fits the profile for just what we need. Adams would be a better #5 hitter than Yadi. Oh well 79-83 record and 11 games out of 1st might be the nudge they need to make something happen next off season, but I doubt it

Ok now Adams is the guy we should have kept?!!!! I've read NOTHING on this board for the last 2 years that said we need to keep Adams because he's just we need, anywhere in the lineup.

It's one thing to get rid of a guy, but when you get nothing for him unless you count a 19 year old who is hitting around .230 with a ,280 on base % then you have to question what MO is doing. He has done nothing to move this club forward. His last good move was Gyorko every things else has not turned out so well.

You were lucky to get that. He had absolutely no trade value, because he's just not that good. He had a hot streak, and has already fallen back to the norm.

I guess that is why he is still playing against right handed pitching moving Freeman to 3rd.

Their starting 3B is on the DL and they are using their former utility infielder to cover at SS For Dansby Swanson since he was so bad they sent him to AAA.

It's as much a statement about how dreadful their infield roster is as it is about Adams.

Oh ok I guess hitting .283 16 Hrs and 49 RBIs have nothing to do with it. Then my question would be do any Birds have these kind of numbers. This was a move MO felt he had to make because MM wanted his bat in the lineup. Playing him in LF was not the answer but refusing to move Carp to 2nd was a mistake and now they do it to get Voit ABs just another mistake in what seems to be a trend for MO

When you consider the net impact on Atlanta's defense of playing Freeman at 3B and Adams at 1B, the offensive impacts of putting Adams in the lineup relative to a generic 3B don't seem quite so hot.

He's a career .272/.317/.468 hitter who plays bad defense at the easiest position in the world to defend. That's not that much of a pickup over the average 3B. Putting his glove in the field almost certainly is a net relative to, say, having Freeman play 1B and having a slightly below league average starting 3B in there.

I don't think Carp should be playing second to get Voit ABs. If you wanted Carp at 2B, no reason you couldn't have done that with Adams at 1B. That part is silly, I agree.

Again, one hot month..... on the Braves.

What is more likely? Adams continues hitting .314/.377/.657(June) or .257/.288/.473(July)? If you answer June...... lol

I wish you guy still had Adams. That trade hurt the Cubs. That should tell you everything you need to know about his value.

Good to see the base running still as shi!!y as ever or the 3rd base coach is still terrible first out at home

I want a star hitter and a defensive SS. Or at least one of them. Who is the SS for 2018? If the answer is on the roster now or at Memphis then our pitching will not improve nor will our playoff chances.

If they don't restructure in some way...I don't know how they expect to get better.

They can fix some of the bullpen for cheap but the lineup has to get better

Endlessly repeating the same process, hoping for a different result! MO is insane by his own definition.:(:(:(:(:(:(:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:
