Scotland County Softball at Brashear August 23, 2011
It was Tigers vs Tigers for the Brashear season opener.
The visiting Scotland County Lady Tigers capitalized on some sloppy defensive work by Brashear to take a 2-0 lead after the 1st half inning. Brashear turned a leadoff walk by Meredith Thomas and a pair of hits by Shelby Salter and Cierra Hines into a pair of runs to tie the game 2-2 after the 1st inning. Brashear's Cierra Hines fanned 3 straight Scotland County batters in the top of the 2nd, but Scotland County's Bethany Rader also pitched a scoreless 2nd to leave the score knotted at 2-2. Scotland County got on the scoreboard in a big way in the 3rd, putting 5 runs on the board, then retiring Brashear in the bottom of the 3rd in order to claim a 5-2 lead. Brashear's only other run came in the 5th when Shelby Salter blasted a solo home run. The final score was Scotland County 8 - Brashear 3. Shelby Salter had a pair of hits, including a home run, for Brashear with Meredith Thomas, Cierra Hines, and Katie Smith also having hits. Creek, Slaughter, Radar, Smith, Jackson, Wright, Holt, and Duzon all had hits for Scotland County. Radar was the winning pitcher for Scotland County striking out 9 and surrendering 6 hits. Hines was the losing pitcher for Brashear giving up 11 hits and striking out 6. In the 3-inning JV game, the two Tiger squads battled to a 5-5 tie.
