When you look at their rotation, how do you think they try to win? And The Mang hitting cleanup and playing 1B...neither of those are proof of trying to win. They might do some dumb things but they do try to win.
Kinsler-2b
Trout-CF
Upton-LF
Pujols-1B
Ohtani-DH
Calhoun-RF
Valbuena-3B
Maldonado-C
Simmons-SS

They do, however, make some really bad FO decisions. They're not even trying, they've got that mastered.
You do realize Kinsler is 36 and is probably in the middle of a big decline, right? We'll see, but they've got to pitch. I'd much rather have the Birds active and 40 man rosters.Come on. I know you and 21 like to play tough guy here. They have added Kinsler, Upton and Ohtani. Stop it. They arent finished yet.
Certainly our 40 man. Probably our 25 man once we're done making moves, especially if Ohtani isn't 200 innings of Carlos Martinez level pitching or better. You do realize Kinsler is 36 and is probably in the middle of a big decline, right? I believe the Birds have finished with a better record every year since Albert signed with them.Come on. I know you and 21 like to play tough guy here. They have added Kinsler, Upton and Ohtani. Stop it. They arent finished yet.
Quite believable, they are a terribly run team from the owner down. The poster child for signing old players to ridiculous deals.I believe the Birds have finished with a better record every year since Albert signed with them.

Kinsler isn't major. He's barely minor anymore. The other two are quality players. I know this, I'm glad I'm not an Angels fan.I know this. Im just talking about this off season. They are going for it in 2018. I didnt mean anything else. And I wasnt comparing them to STL. I simply noted they have made 3 major pick ups. If I was an Angels fan, I would be appreciative. Kinsler is still a pro's pro. He is the kind of vet the birds used to pick up to put them in the hunt to beat the pond scum Mets.

2017?In 2016, Kinsler had a WAR of 6.1.
2017?
I did. And I also realize he's 36 and very likely to have a huge decline. If the Birds had signed him I would've reacted about the same way I did to the Fowler signing. Great, the Angels are going for it. And they're still going to suck. Ian Kinsler isn't going to change that.Come on. Admit it. You didnt realize he had 6+ war in 2015 and 2016. He was banged up in 2017 and didnt perform to his level--(still had a 2+) but is healthy again. I hope you arent dissing WAR. Its ok to admit you didnt know bro. How many of your beloved redbirds have ever had a 6+??? Come on bro.

This would be a lot more meaningful if he weren't over 35 years old.Come on. Admit it. You didnt realize he had 6+ war in 2015 and 2016. He's replacing a spot where the angels were absolutely dreadful last year, so there is real value in him being a ~2-3 win player. He's not a stud anymore, but league average performance at 2B is still a good upgrade for the Angels.I did. And I also realize he's 36 and very likely to have a huge decline. A closer + one more position player would go a long way, don't you think?Ok.
I just wish the birds would go ahead and make the next big deal. Handling this anxiety is not my forte.
I agree Neut, but my thoughts are they will go get A. Reed or some cheaper type RP and go closer by committee and be done. Hope I'm wrong but once they got Ozuna they probably patted themselves on the back and headed back to St. Louis for the ground breaking ceremony for ballpark village. Hope I'm wrong, but I just don't see them giving up their young guns for Colome, but that would be the trade I hope they make.A closer + one more position player would go a long way, don't you think?
I was willing to put money on them going after Castro. Young enough, cheap enough, high contact guy to mix in with their power batsHe's replacing a spot where the angels were absolutely dreadful last year, so there is real value in him being a ~2-3 win player. I haven't seen anything about the Cards looking hard at Reed. Not that they couldn't be. But the chatter seems more focused on Davis.I agree Neut, but my thoughts are they will go get A. Simmons/Kinsler is a heck of a defensive combo for a team whose rotation doesn't exactly lead the world in KsI was willing to put money on them going after Castro. Young enough, cheap enough, high contact guy to mix in with their power bats
Did not see Kinsler being a fit
Also true, but Castro at 2nd isn't as bad as the metrics/stats play outSimmons/Kinsler is a heck of a defensive combo for a team whose rotation doesn't exactly lead the world in Ks
Eh, they are going to be a really good defensive team when Pujols isn't on the field. Trout is a fine CF. Their catcher is good. Simmons is divine. They gotta be top 5 in the league at D unless their corner players are millstonesAlso true, but Castro at 2nd isn't as bad as the metrics/stats play out
And let's be honest, with their pitching.....They are just trying to out hit everyone now. Pitching and defense are just bonus points
I could watch Simmons, Russell and Lindor all day long and never get boredEh, they are going to be a really good defensive team when Pujols isn't on the field. Trout and Upton are fine. Their catcher is good. Simmons is divine.
I'm sorry, I believe you misspelled Diaz, DeJong, and Peralta.I could watch Simmons, Russell and Lindor all day long and never get bored

Can we throw in Baez for theatrical performances too? I know he might struggle with the routine sometimes, but holy heck that is one athletic dude.I could watch Simmons, Russell and Lindor all day long and never get bored
