The Ritenour high school basketball program appears to be moving in the right direction. Mike Nelke was hired as the head basketball coach two years ago and the winning started immediately.
Ritenour's won-lost record since 2010. Ritenour has 1832 students

1. 2010--4-22
2. 2011--3-21
3. 2012--4-20
4. 2013--5-18
5. 2014--10-11--Dave Watkins Jr.
6. 2015--16-10--Dave Watkins Jr. final year @ Ritenour
7. 2016--15-11--Mike Nelke's first year
8. 2017--16-5
After talking with the AD @ Ritenour---The Ritenour people feel the turn around started in 2014 under Dave Watkins Jr. and has continued under Mike Nelke. The atmosphere toward the basketball program @ Ritenour has changed, more top athletes are trying out for the team instead of transferring to other districts. Yes indeed, Ritenour basketball is on the rise.

Let's discuss the rise of the basketball program @ St. Mary's. Kelvin Lee was hired @ St. Mary's three years ago. Good results of this hire came in last year and appear to be continuing and this might be the beginning.

The won- lost record @ St. Mary's since 2010.--St. Mary's has 342 students enrolled.

1. 2010-----14-11
2. 2011-----13-10
3. 2012-----12-13
4. 2013-----13-14
5. 2014-----11-14
6. 2015-----14-11--Kelvin Lee's first year
7. 2016-----21-8
8. 2017-----17-3

Do we have other example of high school coaches completely turning the basketball program around in their first 4-5 years on the job?

Some of it may be the coaches, but it may just be the timing of having great athletes come through at the right time.

Not coming though at the right time but recruited at the right time. Metro have you ever heard of Lee being in trouble before from recruiting? I have read something about that on the St Louis Post high school forum

Kelvin Lee can not talk with any student-athlete about attending St. Mary's high school however the St. Mary's recruiters can talk with students before enrolling in the 9th grade. The St. Mary's recruiters can not talk with students already enrolled in a high school. It appears the MSHSAA is working on the " Honor System ". I have not heard of any violations by any Missouri high school this year.

Courte'are Gordon had to sit out 365 days for enrolling @ Vianney and then enrolling back @ Webster a year and a half latter. Courte'are did not ask for a hardship ruling by the MSHSAA.

Train, Have you heard of any possible " Big News " out of Poplar Bluff? I'm also hearing the Scott County Central " situations " is being resolved for a district and beyond run however the asst coach and a player who lives in Sikeston may not not return.

Sikeston's Fred Thatch was the player of the year in class 4 last year. ( Soph. Year ) The word on the street is Fred is getting better and better and could propel the Sikesrton Bulldogs into a quarter final match up with powerful Vashon 17-2 or St. Mary's 17-2.

SLUH @ Vashon tonight. I hope to attend this game. Can Erwin Claggett and his Junion Bills invade the Vashon and celebrate?
