Republic

Sounds like you have realistic expectations.
Sometimes no matter who the coach is they just don't have football players, they have kids playing football. And there is nothing wrong with that.
I am really surprised Buck is sticking around. There is talent in the younger grades but the next few years will be rough.

Watch out boys - in his younger years Bosko used to like to trash coaches houses.
Excuse me!? Stef was the one who dumped trash on you, your lawn, and your little girl. I wasnt even there! *turns to pool hall patron next him* "Did you see me at Nickerson's house that night!?" *shouting to the entire pool hall* "Did anyone see me at Nickerson's house that night!?"

I wonder how Republic would fare if they were in the OC instead of COC? I've been kicking around some realingment ideas for the offseason discussion.

Weird you say that because I heard recently that Neosho is exploring leaving the COC.

It would be interseting to see a listing of all the coaches in the COC's salaries. You have to believe that some of them have under the table benefits as well

Really? What other option do they really have? I get that they are having a hard time competing in football but as far as I know they are at least decent in most other sports. They are significantly larger than McD County which is significantly larger than everyone else in the Big 8. Neosho teetered between Class 4 and 5 in football before the new scheme.

Yeah the person that told me this said they already know the Big 8 won't take them so that is one reason they will end up staying. The OC is the only other option but that comes with major travel issues.

Yeah the OC travel for them would be even worse than it was for Joplin.

I really like the current configuration of the COC. We've got 5 teams here in the Joplin area with basically no travel, 4 around Springfield and then Branson. Branson is a fairly long drive but it's a fun road trip. Republic is less than an hour from Carthage and Willard is about the same.

The only thing I'd change is I'd like to see Branson regain some of their former might and I'd like to see Neosho get something more stable going. And I wouldn't complain if Webb City got knocked down a peg or two and came back down to earth as just a normal very good opponent vs a guaranteed loss in all but one or two games per decade, lol. So the conference race was actually more than just the off chance someone beats Webb City.

Why do I get the feeling this is going to be a Dave Steckel type hire? BOE and parents super pumped because it's a bright, shiny name...but in reality, a dud hire.

What happened to just getting better...??
We talk about kids wanting participation trophies, now schools, coaches and administration instead of just realizing either they don't have the talent right now or they need to work harder to compete just basically say hey I am going to take my ball and go play in a weaker conference so it can look like I got better.

As long as the kids have fun and get some exercise. That's all that matters.

What if the OC covered springfields 5 high schools, willard, republic, ozark, nixa, and bolivar; and the out non springfield OC teams joined COC.

I feel that all standards, objectives, benchmarks, GLE's, CLE's, and everything else should be met, according to the guidelines of the federal and state politicians who know what is best for students. And care about their future.

Sam is now encouraged to sit next to me...virtually or distanced of course...at all faculty meetings now.

Those are bus rides I could get on board with! Heck, toss Bolivar (no offense). If you're not within ten miles of a Springfield city limit line, you can't join. Have a yearly conference tourney. City Butcher could be the sponsor for the hospitality rooms.

That would be one hell of a basketball conference, and one crappy football conference.

But whatever allows them to hang that football conference banner and pound their chest that they are the best of the rest.

Republic has hired the head coach from Gardner-Edgerton.
What's the skinny on him? Just a few Google searches lead me to an overall record of 139-46. Last two stops were Hutch and G-E. First yr at Hutch they were 10-1. Last yr at Hutch they were 5-4. First yr at G-E they were 10-1. Last yr at G-E they were 5-3. Interesting.

Honestly I can get on board with that, we could let strafford and rog join too, that way central can still play the small schools like they like. I also vote for the conference championship with bbq and maybe we could do a toilet bowl game for the bottom two. Better check with bosko to make sure we got the funds for this. And nobody cares if its more driving for the coc, sounds like a small town problem lol (sarcasm)

I am told that they run the flex-bone.

Ryan Cornelson. Considered one of the better coaches in Kansas City Kansas. (Johnson County)
