Curious if anyone has heard how things are going in Clinton. Hoping for the best for those kids after the JV experiment last year.

It was a shame they did that to those kids last year. So you're going to struggle? That's life. Teach them lessons about adversity instead of worrying about your W-L.
Do we know how many kids Clinton had out last season? If I recall correctly, Clinton only had like 25 kids out? I believe those in the program were worried about injuries. Thats not very many kids for a class 3 program. IMO

It's an excuse. Who cares if it's class 3? It's football and 11 on 11.
Don't quit when things get tough is the lesson to teach not 'well we dont' have enough to win so let's take a year off'.

That coach didn't seem to have much problem beating up on teams with fewer kids than that when he was at Lincoln. Guess that avoids the old 'what goes around, comes around' thing I suppose.

25 kids is enough for Class 3 ball, it's a shame if that's specifically why they cancelled the varsity season. But then again I have absolutely no context whatsoever. All my thoughts come directly from my arse...

I think that out of the 25 kids, 20 of them were freshman. MRVC West is a meat grinder, that would have been bad. Big difference between 13/14 years olds vs 17/18 year olds.

Yes, Clinton won some JV games last fall. They had one senior out and he was a kicker. They dropped varsity because they would’ve had to start some freshmen. MRVC West is a tough league.

Clinton is just kind of bad spot geographically for them. They fit okay with the MRVC West but with that league is becoming an essentially a KC suburb league. Ozark Highlands they fit perfect for geographically but school wise other than Buffalo they are larger. The best fit is with the Tri-County schools around the Lake. But they are just too far west, Maybe if the Tri-County splits in the future or some of the Columbia/Jeff City schools get a little bigger and leave.

Try having 17 out and playing a schedule that had a class 5, 4, two class 3, 3 class 2 a stout class 1 then a state champion class 2. 5 or 6 of that 17 were 9th graders. 2 were starters. Got our ass whipped but the program went on to be decent.

The excuse is just that.
Someone didn't want to rack up losses and so they waved the white flag.

Clinton went JV last year because they were young. Coach could care less about losing, I mean he did go to Clinton leaving a good Lincoln program to do so. The issue He faced was that Clinton kids kept having to play the MRVC west as freshman and sophomores and getting hurt or beaten physically and emotionally. You don’t take the girl home when you lose by 60. Then they would quit when they were upper classmen. It was a continuous cycle from what the coach said so he decided to go JV to try and find some success some how for the kids. Two classes graduated from Clinton with 0 football game wins JV/V in their careers. Numbers were never the former coaches issue. 43 kids last year. 1 senior kicker, 7 juniors. 2 starting o-line went out for the season in camp. Heard they are down to 32 players this year. The previous coach could also be a terrible coach, who was just got lucky in Lincoln because of his talent he walked into. Anyone could have coached those 2018-2019 Lincoln teams.

Clinton went 4-3 or 4-4 in JV last year.

That's a LOT more than 25.
That’s definitely enough to play a full JV and Varsity in the MRVC. Hopefully the new coach isn’t a P***Y like the last one. I’d trot those freshman and sophomores out like the movie 300! There may only be 1 or 2 left standing their senior year, but they’d be better men for it!

Are you still living on a boat and scraping barnacles?
