Should I reclassify my son? He is in middle school and just isn't as big as the other kids yet. I think that extra year in middle school will make him grow more than what his genetic code says. I know all his friends will be gone and in high school and I probably will have to switch districts to do this, but I think he will get a scholarship this way.
Thanks,
Ludicrous

This is hard to say, but I've seen your son play, more time in middle school won't help.

As silly as this sounds it’s happened 5 times in our area on the girls side in the past 5 years.

If you aren't starting on your school team in any year, you aren't playing in college.

All AAU has to do with a stroke of a pen is do away with the Grade Based tournaments and go strictly Age Based. I don't know of any AAU teams that actually do age based though.
Hate hearing these stories especially when it is the parent pushing and the kid doesn't really want to.
When did this reclassifying become a thing?

I know a fam up north that is probably going to do this with both their sons. I had not heard about this until I heard an AAU coach advocating for it.

How does this help when the kid is in high school when colleges actually see you? The difference between a junior and a senior isn't much.

MSHSAA put a stop to it in HS putting in the Deana Beaman rule. She tore her ACL middle of junior year in the early 90's. She sat out the following year, rehabbed and took courses to stay eligible. Came back and did her 5th year senior season and went on to UMSL I believe and had a great college career. Now is a head D-3 coach. After that, MSHSAA put in the 8 consecutive rule. That is where it began in MSHSAA. Now kids are held back in JR high to gain an advantage and get around the MSHSAA rule. MSHSAA does have an age limit though which helps. AAU does it all the time. PG for KU re classified long enough to play for MoKan in the Peach Jam, then un reclassified to join KU. Prep Schools have opened for kids to attend to Re-Classify and get better before they start their college careers. In that case, it is not a bad thing. In AAU they should have an unsigned Sr division to balance it out in the divisions. It is all about using kids to get a name out there with AAU. Most of the big name AAU teams do not develop their kids. They go out and get the best kids from different parts of the state and even different states to win once they get to high school. MONEY runs everything
