1. AJ Taylor (#4 - RB) was as good (if not better) than advertised.
2. That said, for a physical running back who was easily getting 5-6 yards a carry and required 5 men to bring him down, Rockhurst had times when they would take to the air or not rely on him in big moments. Not sure if carries were purposefully limited (early season, game that doesn't really matter, etc) or what, but I would have gone to my bell cow more.
3. Wish I had counted how many times Webb City met Taylor or the QB in the backfield 1 on 1 only to have a broken arm tackle.
4. Rockhurst starting QB was gone after 1st series. Injury? Coach's decision?
5. Webb City tipped a lot of passed balls on defense.
6. Roderique & staff were on the officials (justifiably so) quite a bit through the first half. A couple examples: Onside kick looked like it was touched early. The hit on the QB out of bounds on the Rockhurst sideline looked like the Webb defender started his tackle in bounds.
7. Burroughs / VanLue is definitely the more physical backfield for Webb City. To keep VanLue fresh on D though, I imagine Roderique will stick with Potts as much as possible.
8. Webb City had a few nice passing plays (TD on 4th down was one), but in weeks 1 & 2 there have been several dropped balls that were catchable.
9. It's nice with the referee having a microphone.
10. Watching Kolesan Crane on kickoff coverage is probably my favorite part of Friday nights.
11. Rockhurst had small-ish, but loud, crowd. Made for a fun environment.
12. Right before the game started, I saw 3 Rockhurst students walk into the stadium. One said to the others: "Jesus Christ". Not sure what he meant. But I laughed.
13. Nice win for Webb City. Also nice to see that the coaches will have a good deal of coaching to do going forward. Translation: Webb City didn't look sharp tonight, but still had a comfortable "Webb City" win.
